Triton is a male comic superhero who features in Marvel Comics.

Biography

Triton

Years later on Black Bolt's 19th birthday, his father Agon allowed his son to finally leave isolation now that he had found the discipline to never speak. It was here that Triton first met Black Bolt. When Maximus attempted to force his brother to speak to cause untold destruction in the hopes he could eventually claim the Inhuman throne, Medusa, Gorgon and Karnak stopped him. (Thor v1 #149) Black Bolt soon became ruler of the Inhumans after the untimely death of his parents, and his brother Maximus being driven mad after nearly betraying their people to the Kree. (Avengers v1 #95) On May 7, 1915, Triton was swimming through the ocean when he witnessed the RMS Lusitania on its course from New York to Liverpool. En-route, the ship was struck by a torpedo fired by the German U-Boat. Witnessing the passengers scrambling for their lives, Triton tired to save who he could. Very young himself at the time and not very strong, Triton was only able to save a young boy named Billy who was handed to him by the boy's grandfather. After getting Billy to shore, Triton fled back into the ocean for fear of further discovery. (Inhumans v2 #9) In the 1950s, Triton decided to explore the oceans outside of Attilan. During his travels he came across a film crew filing a monster movie. Witnessing a scene where the monster attacks a woman and not understanding it was all an act, Triton interfered. The movie crew were able to intervene and incapacitate Triton. Realizing that they had captured a real live fish man, the director decided to take Triton back to the mainland and make it rich. (Thor v1 #150) Contained in a glass case filled with water, Triton waited to see what was to happen, his curiosity being just as piqued as his captors. As they approached shore Triton overheard how they were going to keep him caged and decided break free. Triton broke free and sank the ship, but instead of fleeing he still wished to explore this strange new city he had been brought to. (Thor v1 #151) Triton came to shore in New York City, on land he was attacked by locals. Fleeing into the streets he attacked oncoming cars, not understanding what they were, and was chased away by the authorities. Fleeing back into the ocean, Triton swam back to Attilan, and reported back to Black Bolt about his findings. Triton feared that the humans current advancement in technology would lead to the Inhumans being discovered. (Thor v1 #152)

Based on Triton's news and the fact that the Inhumans had developed a level of xenophobia toward the humans of the outside world, Black Bolt ventured out to seek a new home for his people. Along the way he met another advanced offshoot of humanity, the Eternals. (What If? v1 #29) Eventually a new home was located in the Himalayan Mountains. Triton and the rest of the Inhumans then assisted in moving their domain there with some help from the Eternals. (What If? v1 #30) Due to his crimes against society, Maximus was locked away for years but he eventually used his mental powers to coerce three of the Alpha Primitives slave class. He compelled them to expose themselves to the Terrigen Mists transforming them into an entity known as the Trikon. The Trikon then compelled the Alpha Primitives to revolt against their suppressors. During the ensuing uprising, Medusa attempted to confront the Trikon on a sky sled, but it blasted her ship causing her to crash somewhere outside of the Great Refuge. The crash had stricken Medusa with amnesia and she wandered away from the ensuing battle which was eventually ended, but with Maximus taking control of the Inhuman throne and exiling his cousins. The royal family however continued to search for her. (Inhumans Special v1 #1)

Their search eventually brought the Inhumans to New York City, where they established a temporary home below a Brooklyn tenement slated for demolition. While out exploring one night Crystal happened to cross paths with the Human Torch, member of the heroic Fantastic Four. The pair were smitten by each other from the first, and after a quick chase, Crystal mistook Johnny Storm for an Inhuman due to his flame powers. When Gorgon successfully returned with Medusa, she recognized him as her former foe and a battle broke out. During the conflict, Johnny was able to summon his comrades in the Fantastic Four, while the Inhumans summoned their leader Black Bolt. (Fantastic Four v1 #45) With the rest of the Inhumans, Triton joined in a battle atop New York City’s buildings against the Fantastic Four. But Mister Fantastic quickly discovered his suit of water that kept him submerged and tore it open. Triton was forced to flee the battle and dive off the New York docks, only to be captured shortly thereafter by the Seeker, who had also been sent to bring the Inhumans back to Attilan. When the Seeker captured the android Dragon Man, the Fantastic Four followed his trail to discover his ship. But the Dragon Man awoke too soon, and, finding himself chained, broke free and went on a rampage, destroying the water globe that the Seeker held Triton within. (Fantastic Four v1 #46) While the Human Torch and the Thing left to chase the Dragon Man, Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Girl stayed behind and used Sue’s powers to save Triton before he expired in the air. But the Seeker soon claimed him under Inhuman law and Reed was forced to give him up to be returned to Attilan. Shortly afterwards, Black Bolt and the rest of the Inhumans returned to Attilan and Black Bolt tore his crown from his brother, Maximus. Maximus then revealed to Triton and the Seeker that he was setting off his atmo-gun, which would kill all the humans on Earth, leaving only the Inhumans to rule the planet. (Fantastic Four v1 #47) But the machine didn’t work and Medusa announced what it revealed: that the Inhumans were of the same race as the humans. This drove Maximus insane, and he reversed his atmo-gun, sealing Triton and the rest of the Inhumans in a 'Negative Zone' barrier that surrounded Attilan. (Fantastic Four v1 #48)

Triton was a member of the Inhuman race, artificially mutated by the Terrigen Mist, giving him scaly greenish skin, a small dorsal fin running from the base of the skull to the forehead, membranous fins extending from his temples, and webbing between his toes and between his fingers. Triton is able to breathe water, to swim at great speeds, and to withstand the pressures of the deep sea. He cannot naturally breathe air and needs near-constant contact with water to survive, and cannot exist out of water without artificial aids. His resistance to deep sea pressure also gives him superhuman strength and speed underwater. He has the ability to survive underwater indefinitely, and the ability to withstand the temperature and pressure of ocean depths. His vision is more sensitive to the green portion of the visible spectrum, enabling him to see in relatively dark ocean depths.

The nerve endings beneath his scales were capable of transmitting nav data. (Inhumans: Once and Future Kings v1 #4)

Triton has undergone basic Inhuman royal militia training. When on land, Triton employs a water circulation system consisting of lengths of plastic tubing which run along his torso and limbs, maintaining a constant mist of water and providing a supply of fresh water to his gills.

• In Ultimate Spider-Man, Triton made an appearance starting in "Agent "Venom" as a new recruit of S.H.I.E.L.D. and was voiced by actor James Arnold Taylor. The episode "Inhumanity" established him as a member of the Inhuman Royal Family sent as an exchange student from Attilan. As an outsider, he was isolated from his class mates who found him strange and different leading to a mistrust of him. He joined Spider-Man in the fight against the Molten Man but was overconfident in his own abilities as a fighter based off his combat skills in Attilan. Spider-Man would teach him about team work and he returned to the Triskelion when suddenly the throne-city of Attilan emerged over New York with the Inhumans declaring war. As a result, Triton was arrested under orders from Nick Fury though he stated that his was unlike his people and he convinced Spider-Man to assist him in stopping a war. They managed to reach Attilan where they discovered that Maximus the Mad had taken over the city and controlled the Royal Family where he forced them to wage a war against mankind. Spider-Man and Triton only escaped when the latter used a gyro-cube to temporarily trap Maximus. They later fought a ritual trial by combat against Maximus who was defeated when his mind controlling helmet was knocked off allowing the Royal Family to regain control. Following an apology from Nick Fury for his aggressive actions, Triton was made the Attilan ambassador to S.H.I.E.L.D.
• In Inhumans, Triton appeared in the live-action television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe where he was portrayed by actor Mike Moh. Triton underwent Terrigenesis and obtained the power to survive in aquatic conditions. Receiving news about the Inhuman Outbreak, Black Bolt asked Triton to go to Earth to seek out the newly emerged Inhumans and bring them back to Attilan, keeping this mission quiet from the rest of the Royal Family. Taking Lockjaw, Triton arrived at Hawaii, where he found a young new Inhuman named Jane, who was been pursued by military forces that were actually revealed to be members of the Attilan Royal Guard. Triton calmed down the girl and told her about her heritage and Attilan. Before he was able to summon Lockjaw and take them to safety, the Attilan Royal Guards found the two, scaring the girl and causing her to run. As Triton tried to help her, Jane was shot down from behind by Hunter One and fell to the ground wounded and presumed dead. With the person he was sent to protect now dead, Triton attempted to escape from the military by headed towards the ocean, when he was shot in the stomach. Triton was able to make it to the ocean but due to his wound, he fell off the cliff and into the ocean. While everybody but Black Bolt thought that Triton had died on Earth, he had actually been hiding all along to make Maximus think his coup d'état was going according to his plans. When Black Bolt decided to retaliate after reuniting with the Inhuman Royal Family and the death of Gorgon, he took his family to a beach where Triton revealed his survival, much to his relatives' surprise. After the reunion, Triton accompanied his family back to Attilan into the Royal Bunker where the Royal Family prepared for retaking the throne. As the people of Attilan believed him to be dead, Triton decided not to show himself during the parley between Maximus and the Royal Family, going throughout the city to cause multiple malfunctions instead. Multiple systems within the city started to fail and Maximus figured out that his family was still in Attilan after the failure of the parley. Triton called Black Bolt and Medusa to inform them of the situation, then attacked Maximus' guards, taking them down one by one before facing Maximus himself. Although Maximus tried to fight back, Triton easily subdued him and brought him back to the Royal Bunker for interrogation. There, Maximus revealed that he had enacted a secret fail safe which would cause the protective dome surrounding Attilan to collapse if he did not stop it.
