The Hunter is an alien character that features in the 1988 Superman cartoon.
Background
The Hunter is an artificial green skinned Humanoid with large circular red eyes, no body hair and three digits on his hands. He was created in the Phantom Zone from a cosmic pool by General Zod in an attempt to get himself and his fellow prisoners out of their cosmic prison. Due to the unique nature of the Hunters origins, it was easy for the creature to escape the Phantom Zone where he was tasked with destroying Superman on Earth,
He would learn of Supermans closeness to Daily Bugle reporter Lois Lane and kidnapped her in order to force a confrontation with the Kryptonian. However, he quickly learnt that Superman was a powerful foe to face and thus the Hunter resorted to more sinister means at defeating Superman which resulting in him acquiring Kryptonite. It appaared as though the Hunter had killed Superman with the substance after which the artificial alien attempted to free his creator from the Phantom Zone. However, Superman arrived and interrupted the process allowing only General Zod through. The Hunter this time attempted to finally kill Superman and morphed into an electric being but his power was turned back against himself and he was destroyed.
The Hunter possessed the unique ability of altering his molecular structure into that of any other element. He demonstrated the ability to transform into steel, diamond, water, electricitiy and even Kryptonite though to accomplish these feats he requires physical contact with the substance.
