Gabriel John Utterson was a close friend of Dr. Henry Jekyll as well as his lawyer. Utterson became embroiled in the mystery surrounding Jekyll's other "friend," Edward Hyde, especially when Hyde turned out to be a homicidal maniac and killed another of Utterson's clients, Sir Danvers Carew. With the help of Scotland Yard's Inspector Newcomen and Jekyll's loyal butler Poole, Utterson was able to solve the mystery and stop Hyde once and for all.
