History
The Familiars are an ancient secretive cult of which little is known about except that they are involved in a selective breeding program of creating the next evolution of Humanity in order to survive a coming disaster. They were known for a secret involvement in Project Manticore. The members of the cult viewed the transgenics created as part of Manticore as abominations that deserved nothing less of extermination.
For thousands of years, it was considered a tradition for initiates to take part in the ceremony. (Episode: Love Among the Runes)
