History

Vampires (吸血鬼, Kyūketsuki?) were an immortal race of beings that survived by feeding on the blood of humans. Their existence was largely kept a secret and they remained hidden from mankind for countless years.

Eventually, they established their third biggest capital city in Japan with this being Sanguinem.

Overview

In appearance, vampires greatly resembled humans with only a few differences such as their pale white skin, red eyes and pointed ears.

Vampires gained sustenance by drinking blood from humans with this nourishing them. They struggled with their instincts and desire to feed on blood.

Such was their regenerative capabilities that they were able to reattach a lost limb with ease. In fact, powerful vampires were able to survive having their necks snapped and simply put it back in its correct location. Their capacity to heal improved by drinking blood and a vampire that was hungry could not heal their wounds quickly. Weapons that were cursed had the ability of wounding and killing vampires. As vampires, they had the ability to turn a human into a member of their kind. This was achieved by a human drinking the blood of a vampire. After drinking the blood, the human was transformed into an incomplete vampire where they were still partially human and aged as normal. As such, their eye color did not change but had an instinct to feed on blood. In this time, they were able to quench their thirst by drinking the blood of the vampire that turned them but eventually they had to feed on human blood. After drinking human blood, their transformation was complete with their eye color changing to red and the new vampire become immortal where they remained at the age they were turned.

Leadership of their kind was maintained by the Progenitor Council that consisted of the Progenitor vampires. Progenitors were all members of the vampire nobility with those ranked sixth or higher sitting on the council. Those vampires sired by a Progenitor became nobles and stood above average members of their kind.

With regards to humans, vampires scornfully looked down on mortals and tended to refer them as 'livestock'. Prior to the Apocalypse, the vampires were forbidden from interfering in the affairs of the human world and had their existence hidden from mankind. This law became invalid after the Apocalypse when mankind faced a threat to their existence. With their food supply in harm, the vampires moved in to take control of the world and save humans to feed on in the future. At Sanguinem, vampires were forbidden from directly drinking the blood of humans within the city. They allowed to directly drink blood on the surface or on the battlefield.

Higher ranked vampires made use of first-class weapons that drank the blood of their wearer in order to significantly increase their power.
