Andrew "Ender" Wiggin was born as one of three children of a religious family with him being the youngest and noted for a genius. However, his birth was contrary to the state's strict policy on family's having only two children. Ender was deemed a special case as his existence was called upon as part of a program designed to produce commanders needed to battle against the [[Formics]]. As a result, Wiggin attended the Earth-orbiting space station known as Battle School that was tasked with training other similar prodigies. At the academy, Ender received the same level of education as the other children but the military recognized his skill and deemed him the best chance in becoming the supreme commander in humanity's war against the 'Buggers'. As a result, they manipulated their own rules in order to ensure that Ender gained the much needed technical skills but also arranged that he met the right individuals to achieve their goals. As a result, Ender Wiggin was conditioned to be entirely self-sufficient from a very young age.
