Both of her parents were later killed for aiding the resistance leaving Valentina to believe life was meaningless until she decided to carry on in their place. (Strange Tales v1 #162)
S.H.I.E.L.D.
An all-female cadre named Femme Force and led by Sharon Carter, a.k.a. Agent 13, was implemented by S.H.I.E.L.D., in which the Contessa assumed the position of Agent 14.
