Origin

Ikaris was a male human Eternal created by the Celestials charged with looking after the Machine on Earth. (Eternals v5 #1)

Around 200,00 years ago, an argument erupted amongst the Eternals on whether they should expand their ranks through true reproduction or not. This resulted in war erupting between factions headed by Zuras and A'Lars in an event known as the Titan Schism. In this conflict, Ikaris came to side with the minority faction headed by A'Lars who had proposed that they seek reproduction. During the war, the Zurasian faction came to discover where the A'Larsians were resurrecting in the Isolation and began ambushing them whilst they were awakening. In the Schism, Ikaris was noted to had been killed seven times before he managed to escape to the A'Larsian base. (Eternals: Thanos Rises v1 #1)

Both Ikaris and Phastos came to observe the Olympian Hercules as he defended the city of Lerna from the Hydra. The two Eternals were concerned at one of the Olympian gods being amongst the mortals but decided to simply observe the situation and intervene only when necessary. (Hulk v2 #49)

Ikaris stopped the fight in order to divert the magma flow to save the people of the region whereupon he and Sersi departed as they looked to hear Zuras's decision after the recent encounter with the Red Hulk. (Hulk v2 #49)

Afterwards, he was resurrected by the Machine and was the last of the Eternals to be brought back after their recent death. Upon awakening, he learnt from Zuras that it was decided to resurrect Sprite once again where he was reconstituted as a female based on his last personality backup. Meeting her, Ikaris came to explain the circumstances of her former death with this somewhat surprising her as she did not know she was capable of such evil acts. Instead, she decided to embark on her more playful trickster nature and departed through the network to New York City with Ikaris in pursuit. Whilst there, he sensed the presence of a rogue Deviant in the sewers where Ikaris and Sprite went to deal with the creature as her one of the Eternals three guiding principles. After eliminating the creature, the pair returned to Olympia only to find Zuras had been murdered with Druig accusing the two of being the culprits. Ikaris along with Sprite then embarked on a mission to uncover the true person responsible for the death leading the pair to the city of Titanos where they were confronted by the Mad Titan Thanos.
