Biography

Origin

Arakko

According to one account, originally Arakko was part of a greater island that existed long ago that was known as Okkara. This was until a war erupted over the planet with an enemy wielding a twilight sword that tore the lands asunder. This led to the birth of Arakko and its twin Krakoa with a chasm separating the two from which sprang wicked creatures that sought to claim. It was then that a Mutant warrior named Apocalypse stood against this threat where he used his mighty powers to force the island of Arakko into the chasm thus sealing it there. He then set forth his first Horsemen of Apocalypse there as sentinels to guard it to prevent the chasm from ever being open again. Thus, only Krakoa came to exist on Earth and felt only half-complete as it was separated from its twin Arakko. (Powers of X v1 #4)

Leadership of Arakko and its population of Mutants was maintained by the Great Ring of Arakko. It was divided into groups of nine recognised seats based on the Dawn, the Day, and the Dusk with rumours of a hidden seat based on the Night. These seats were:

Three Seats of the Dawn : consisted of seats that planned for the three outcomes of war where they were deferred to in times of war. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of Victory : the seat planned for the next battle and was traditionally the most consulted leading to them being the Head of the Great Ring. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of Stalemate : the seat was consulted in cases where a battle not could be won or lost. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of Loss : the seat was consulted in dark times of humiliation and pain when the world had fallen. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
Three Seats of the Day : seats that determined what could be seen or touched that were deferred to in times of peace. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of Above-Us : the seat was consulted on matters of the heavens. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of All-Around-Us : the seat was consulted on matters of the land, the people, the weather and the turn of the world. As a matter of unbreakable law, the seat had an additional casting vote with whoever holding this position serving as the Regent of Arakko. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of Below-Us : the seat was consulted on matters of the deep. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
Three Seats of the Dusk : seats that were consulted on matters that could not be seen or touched that was seen as necessary in both war and peace but was never deferred to in such times. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of Law : the seat was consulted on all legal matters and though the laws of Arakko were few and did not change easily the person in this sitting served as final arbiter. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of History : the seat was consulted on matters of lore that recorded and decided to determine the history of Arakko. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
  • Seat of Dreams : the seat was consulted on matters of art, poetry and song. Few were said to challenge this seat but those that did were the most dangerous as they never yielded. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)

A final position of the Great Ring was held by the Voice of Arakko where the holder maintained a special relationship with the living island. No Mutant who was not an Omega-level Mutant had ever sat on the Great Ring. To gain a seat, one simply needed to challenge the person sitting on it to combat. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #8)
