The Extraterrestrial Combat Unit (X-COM) was formed on December 11, 1998 in the wake of numerous alien abductions around Earth. After a series of meetings, the representatives of the worlds most powerful nations met up at Geneva, Switzerland where they discussed the issue. By January 1, 1999, X-COM's first base came operational which would result in the start of the First Alien War. This lasted three year where hundreds of UFOs were intercepted and X-COM forces took heavy casualties in retrieving the alien technology.
