The Secret Sea
After the events of the Obsidian Age, Aquaman was forced to sink Atlantis in order to end the threat that threatened his comrades in the Justice League. This act went against the tenets of all Atlanteans which was murdering their myth. For this, he was hated by the people of Atlantis and found guilty of his crimes where he was stripped of his rule. He was sentenced to die at Traitor's Reef where he was hung up in order to be killed by the wildlife. Whilst there, he was attacked by angry Atlanteans with Orin managing to free himself where he fled into a nearby forest. Weakened from being hung up, he collapsed by a nearby lake where his injuries drew the attention of the nymphs of the Secret Sea who took him into its sacred waters. This act healed him of his injuries and he came to meet the Lady of the Lake who revealed his new destiny for him as she marked her return to the world as the Age of the Waterbearer had begun. (Aquaman v6 #1)
