Dregoth was one of the 15 champions of Rajaat, tasked with destroying the race of giants. He had not yet completed this task when Borys discovered that Rajaat's plan included killing humans along with all the other new races, and he joined in the rebellion, helping to trap him in the Hollow.
Dregoth built the city of Guistinal as his personal kingdom, and became a Sorcerer-King, though his focus was always on gaining more power. Some 1,500 years ago, he discovered a ritual that would allow him to complete the transformation to a dragon in a single step. During his transformation, Hamanu, Borys and Kalak destroyed him (and, incidentally, his city) as he completed the ritual, but the magic kept his corpse animated as a powerful undead.
As he secretly carved out the city of New Guistinal under the ruins of Guistinal, he discovered a planar portal, an artifact from the Green Age. He spent several centuries studying the device, possibly the only means ever known of leaving Athas for other planes, and engineering the perfect servitor race - the dray. Eventually deciding both were complete, the travelled the multiverse for a millennium, becoming introduced to the concept of deities and hitting upon a bold plan: to become the first true god Athas has known. To this end, he has recently returned to Athas and has been researching previously undreamed-of spells to ascend him to goodhood.
