Mr. Ling was a Red Chinese agent assigned to assist Auric Goldfinger in Operation Grandslam. Ling, a scientist who was a specialist in nuclear fission, supplied Goldfinger with the atomic bomb he planned to use at Fort Knox. When the US Army, led by Felix Leiter, stormed the base and fought against Goldfinger's troops, Goldfinger disguised himself as a general and shot Ling in front of some US soldiers, to convince them he was on their side so he could escape.
