Biography
Money D. Luffy was born in Foosha Village in the East Blue region as the son of Monkey D. Dragon and an unknown woman.

Powers and abilities
Luffy unwittingly ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi (ゴムゴムの実, Gum-Gum Fruit) that was a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that gave his body the property of rubber thus making him one of a Rubber Human (ゴム人間 Gomu Ningen?). This allowed him to stretch any part of his body that snapped back into place as it went back to his centre of gravity.
During his adventures, he came to utilise his Devil Fruit powers in unique ways leading to him using a system of gears that included:
- Second Gear (ギア2セカンド,Gia Sekando) :
- Third Gear (ギア3サード,Gia Sādo) :
- Fourth Gear (ギア4フォース, Gia Fōsu) :
He came to be among a small number of individuals that came to harness the power of Haki (覇気, Haki).
