He ambushed the KGB operatives stationed in the area and killed them with his remarkable gun-play, although he professed reluctance in doing so to Soviet comrades.[5] Interrupting the American CIA's own extraction of Sokolov, via their agent Naked Snake, Ocelot had his unit surrounding the two, and attempted to kill Snake, having confused him for a defecting U.S. soldier. However, his arrogant use of a Middle Eastern technique that involved ejecting the first bullet by hand, caused his Makarov handgun to jam, resulting in his entire unit being defeated by Snake's superior close-quarters combat skills. At gunpoint, a winded Ocelot was advised to use revolvers by an impressed Snake, who had earlier noticed his tendency to twist his elbow to absorb recoil, before passing out.
