History
The Abyss was a colossal pit that was discovered 1900 years ago where it was located around the islands of the southern ocean of Beolusk.
In time, specialised groups of humans formed known as Delvers that consisted of cave raiders which travelled into the depths of the Abyss. These expeditions consisted of exploration and finding of unique relics that were brought back to the surface.
Within the 2nd Layer, Delvers established a point for further explorations to the lower levels with this being the Seeker Camp.
Overview
It was divided into numerous layers with the lower ones being gradually more dangerous to human life. These layers were:
- 1st Layer: Edge of the Abyss :
- 2nd Layer: Forest of Temptation :
- 3rd Layer: Great Fault :
- 4th Layer: The Goblet of Giants :
- 5th Layer: Sea of Corpses :
- 6th Layer: The Capital of the Unreturned :
- 7th Layer: The Final Maelstrom :
- The Deepest Point :
There was a unique phenomenon associated with this location with this being the Curse of the Abyss. This was an effect whereby living beings experienced a number of symptoms following the ascent from the Abyss with this being referred to scientifically as the Strains of Ascension. It manifested upon ascending 10 meters within the Abyss with there being no means of avoiding it by conventional means.
Within the 6th Layer, the effects of ascent were even more pronounced as people either suffered from death or a loss in their humanity. Those that suffered the latter of these fates were transformed into Narehate (Hollow) where they were turned into deformed forms. Typically, such individuals were either killed by their fellow cave raiders or simply abandoned in the depths of the netherworld.

It was said that the sheer number of layers and the dangers associated with it meant that Delvers had not fully charted all the creatures that inhabited it. In fact, it was said that less than 10% of animals had been identified with the great majority being unknown.
