It was noted that he came under the attention of the authorities following his heroic actions during an industrial accident. In 1945, he accompanied Premier Stalin to the Potsdam Conference in Germany where he served as his leaders escort during the negotiations between the United Soviet Socialist Republics the Allied forces.
