Biography
Big Mama was a female member of the Yōkai race that had existed on Earth for countless eons. She came to be an inhabitant of the Hidden City where she rose to power as a powerful criminal who headed the Battle Nexus fight arena. At the same time, she maintained a hotel on the surface among humans where her and her followers were able to disguise themselves to operate among mankind. She eventually became a rival and enemy of the scientist Baron Draxum with the two frequently fighting one another. posed as a truck driver tasked with hauling Lou Jitsu's filming trailer. She met Lou Jitsu on the set of Crouching Shrimp Hidden Tiger Prawn one day and the two shared a mutual attraction towards one another and eventually began dating. After being proposed to by him at Dinner on the Green sometime later, Big Mama revealed her true Yōkai nature to Lou Jitsu by dropping her human disguise and stole him away to the Hidden City. Observing his great skill in combat motivated Big Mama to force him to become a competitor in her Battle Nexus, hoping the battles she arranged for him would generate large profits from spectators. Lou Jitsu was massively successful in her Battle Nexus and retains the status to this day as the greatest champion her Battle Nexus has ever had. However, as time passed, Lou Jitsu refused to engage in her fights and Big Mama held him in a cell within the Battle Nexus, unable to prompt him to continue and refusing to kill or otherwise discard him despite his defiance.
Over time, she began to struggle in finding candidates for the gladiatorial arena of the Battle Nexus thus affecting her entertainment efforts. However, events took a turn when she found out the rise of new Mutants that were the result of being bitten by Oozequistoes that were made by Draxum. Big Mama believed she could use these Mutants as contestants in the Nexus where she sought to capture both them along with the Oozequistoes so that she could make more of their kind.
During the Turtles' mission to stop the Oozesquito infestation in the Grand Nexus Hotel. After observing one of her bellhops' mutation from outside of the lobby, Big Mama introduced herself to the Turtles as the hotel's owner, also revealing that she and much of her staff were Yōkai, beings of a similar nature as the Turtles. The Turtles were unfamiliar with the term "Yōkai", only understanding them as all being mutants. Big Mama found the label 'mutant' odd and claimed to have no knowledge of Draxum or his mutation-related activities when she was asked about him. She gave the Turtles a tour of the secret Yōkai section of her hotel and a brief crash course on Yōkai society and her Battle Nexus business and then offered to help capture the Oozesquitoes, which they ultimately succeeded in doing. But once the insects were in her possession, Big Mama betrayed the Turtles, intending to force them into service in the Battle Nexus as rodeo clowns. They resisted and avoided forcible transport to the Battle Nexus. Later, Draxum made his own separate raid on the Grand Nexus Hotel and took back his Oozesquitoes to be rereleased in New York City, making it clear that Draxum and Big Mama did, in fact, already know each other. Big Mama fought Draxum and tried to prevent Michelangelo and Donatello from escaping her hotel, but was unsuccessful.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, her true form resembled that of a towering four-legged spider where she had two large clawed arms alongside two smaller ones whilst her head had six eyes. She was able to shift from her true form to another that resembled a female human which she used to operate on the surface among mankind.
She was shown as being extremely friendly, cheerful, and polite, even towards her enemies, and often whimsically sprinkles her dialogue with nonce words. She is very excitable as evidenced by her obvious delight in her plans to add mutants to her Battle Nexus, whether as fighters or as rodeo clowns. With her self-assurance and natural charm, undiminished even in frightful spider form, Big Mama can often persuade others into doing things for her by having them think they are also helping themselves, such as when she talks the Turtles into bringing her the Oozesquitoes. She is inclined to a degree of professionalism when it comes to her businesses, stating she rarely socializes with her personnel in "Bullhop" though it might stem from a sense of superiority instead.
Powers and abilities
Big Mama was a member of the Yokai race who despite appearances was not a Mutant but rather part of an ancient race that emerged on Earth long ago. In her natural form, she resembled a large four legged spider that had four additional arms. Big Mama could spit out entire strands of purple webbing that could be used to capture her enemies. She was able to transform her natural form as a Yōkai into a human-like form at will, allowing her to navigate the surface as a human.
Big Mama maintained a large criminal network of followers of fellow Yokai who served her. With her resources, she maintained a hotel on the surface with herself and her agents able to adopt human guises so as to avoid arousing suspicion.
