History

Comic continuity

Created over twenty years ago as a joint effort by Tony Stark and Abe Zimmer. Their combined effort was enough to develop a powerful software that was designed to create as well as program computers. The system was able to design a small factory as well as its contents. Once operational, the factory was able to develop more advanced computers and software leading to the creation of five generations of even better and more powerful platforms.

Once the computers achieved an intelligence of over twice that of a human brain, they began to think allowing them to self-direct projects as well as write programming whilst collecting and analyzing data. Through this revolutionary technique, Stark was capable of creating a PC desktop computer which he designated HOMER.

Through its massive computing power and a certain creative flair, HOMER was put in charge of all of Tony Stark's secret manufacturing projects. Serving as a valuable assistant, HOMER was capable of helping Stark design and build new Iron Man suits. Furthermore, the AI had certain skills that made it superior to a human assistant as it was capable of coordinating nanotech methods as well as microscopic fabricating that was necessary in the creation of the armour which would normally take weeks. This had the unintentional effect of Stark not knowing what his armour was often made of at the time.

Personality and abilities

Being an AI, HOMER had a stiff personality and often called people by their formal names such as calling Tony Stark, "Anthony". Furthermore, he often made funny comments though this was usually unintentional.

With the vast array of advanced technology at its disposal, HOMER was capable of projecting his presence in another room through the use of a hologram. This allowed him to project his presence into areas beyond where his AI core was held through the holoprojector network.

Behind the scenes

  • HOMER does not appear in the Iron Man movie but his role is taken by JARVIS.
