Biography
Pre-Crisis
Jo Nah was a male humanoid who was an inhabitant of the planet Rimbor in the 30th century. (Adventure Comics v1 #316)
One day, he was travelling through space when his ship was swallowed by a giant star faring energy beast. He was saved when a passing galactic patrol cruiser found him in peril and rescued him by slicing a piece of the beast off allowing Jo Nah to escape. It was later though that he discovered that the experience had changed him as Jo Nah found that the radiation from the creature had charged his body with ultra-energy. Through experimentation, he found he could channel this ultra-energy into a single superpower at any given time. With this, he made an application then to join the ranks of the Legion of Super-Heroes who accepted him into their ranks. (Adventure Comics v1 #316)

Originally, Jo Nah lacked any powers until one day his vessel was swallowed by a space faring energy beast. Though he managed to escape it, he found exposure to its radiation had charged his body with ultra-energy. Jo Nah then came to learn that he could channel this ultra-energy into various parts of his body to achieve different feats. By focusing on his eyes, he could attain different kinds of vision through his penetra-vision or alternatively he could enhance his strength to superhuman levels with his ultra-strength. Similarly, he could also attain ultra-invulnerability or ultra-speed with this power. However, he could only use one of these powers at a time. (Adventure Comics v1 #316)

- Ultra Boy was created by Jerry Siegel and Curt Swan where he made his first appearance in Superboy v1 #98 (July, 1962).
