History

Homo Titaniens were a genetically engineered humanoid species evolved from mankind that were the result of work by Professor Martin Collingwood. The research was sparked by Professor Collingwood over concerns of the survival of the human race as by 2048 the Earth experienced dangers from overpopulation along with a rise in violent conflicts. Scientists began to look for other habitable worlds within the solar system where they turned the Saturn's moon of Titan as a possible new home for humanity. To survive its conditions, Martin Collingwood suggested a round of experiments designed to improve he chances of astronauts to survive the conditions of the moon and requested 14 test subjects who went through treatments designed to adapt their bodies to the super-cold methane liquids along with ultra-low oxygen atmosphere of Titan. Unknown to anyone, Collingwood was secretly using animal DNA in the genetic cocktails with these being part of forced evolutionary experiments on the subjects at the Titan I research area.

The initial results were promising with Rick becomes able to swim at incredible speeds and stay underwater for 42 minutes. Rick's training becomes increasingly intense as he and the others adapt to increasingly Titan-like environments. Rick finds that some of his hair is falling out, and one of the team members starts convulsing and dies. Abigail noticed the veins of all the test subjects becoming darker. Fellow volunteer Zane had a mental breakdown which causes him to attack his wife, Rayenne. Rick takes a break by sitting at the bottom of their swimming pool, where large amounts of his skin are shed. Abigail's concern grows, and she begins experimentation on a sample of his blood, finding that it is indeed becoming darker. Rick undergoes corneal surgery to accommodate the low light on Titan. When he later has complications, Abigail confronts Collingwood about Rick's changes, but he divulges nothing. Zane suffered another mental breakdown and throws Rayenne through a window, killing her instantly. He is shot and killed by military police. While visiting Rick in the medical facility, Abigail steals his key card and sneaks into Collingwood's office. She finds reports of autopsies of the numerous deceased test subjects, discovering that they were having their DNA infused with animal DNA in an attempt to create the next human species, Homo titaniens.

Overview

In appearance, Homo Titaniens were pale skinned humanoids that were completely hairless and possessed a robust physique. They were shown to possess only four digits as their evolution led to the ring finger and middle finger having been webbed together.

The initial batch of human volunteers were injected over the course of a week, with 300 shots of ammino acids, solutions, enzyme inhibitors, nucleic acid polymers, to prepare them for the long steady road to enable the subjects bodies to burn nitrogen for energy and use as oxygen. Since Titan's atmosphere is more than 90% nitrogen and less than 5% is oxygen, their enhancement allows them to easily breathe. In addition, they have adapted to be resistant to methane due to gills.

To accommodate the low levels of light on Titan, the rod cells in a Homo Titanien are eight times that of a regular human, making the aperture that of a feline's. This trait allows for night vision in the darkness.

The procedure to create the Homo Titaniens involved humans being infused with DNA of several animals. The membranes of a Homo Titanien were a result of bat DNA, granting them the ability to fly in Titan’s low gravity.

Homo Titaniens can only communicate at low frequency, and tactile contact that was undetectable to human senses. Tendrils retract from their index and webbed finger which they use for tactile communication though the tendrils are versatile enough to merge together to form a weapon.
