Wraith (Stargate)
The Wraith are a humanoid parasitical species that live in the Pegasus galaxy in Stargate: Atlantis.
The Wraiths origins are not truly known except that they evolved from the Iratus insect sortly after the Ancients arrived in the galaxy. The creatures fed upon Humans and incorporated there DNA into their genetics which spawned the creation of the Wraith.
For a hundred years, the Wraith warred with the Lanteans driving them from there territories until only Atlantis was left. Sieging the city, the Lanteans submerged the cityship beneath the sea of there world and fled back to the Milky Way galaxy. Victorious, the Wraith would claim the galaxy and feed on the Human inhabitants. However, this diminished the Human population and required the Wraith to endure periodic hibernation cycles where they slept for centuries until the Human herds grew in number for a culling. This pattern was disrupted by the arrival of the Atlantis Expedition which prematurely awakened the Wraith who attempted to find Atlantis and the secret to intergalactic travel in order to reach a richer feeding ground - Earth.
The Wraith appear as pale white or slightly green skinned humanoids with white hair. They are parasitic in the sense that they require the life force of Humans in order to survive. This they accomplish through their right feeding arm and drain the 'years' of the prey unil they are nothing but a pile of bones. A visible sign of aging is present in the prey and those 'years' taken can leave a Human in a traumatic state and eventually die from the strain of the process.
The Wraith are telepathic but do not possess a hive mind however this links members of the species together. Female Wraith usually fulfil the role of Queens and are the masters of their Hive and often are territorial; not enjoying the intrusion of other Hives on their territory. Males serve as masked drone warriors or as intelligent commanders that can fulfil the role as scientists.
