History

Starro-tech was an advanced piece of technology that was produced by Vandal Savage and his allies in the Light. Its basis was the alien organism known as Starro that was frozen for millennia on Earth until it was discovered by Atlantean scientists led by Vulko. They transferred the frozen organism to the Poseidonis Science Center in order to study it carefully. The Light dispatched Black Manta to recover the alien creature but their plan was thwarted by Aqualad and Tempest. This forced Black Manta to destroy the frozen prison out of spite though a small piece survived where it began to regenerate. Prince Orm decided to allow the surface world to study the creature further after the Science Center was damaged which saw it being examined in Gotham City's STAR Labs.

In response, Klarion along with his band of sorcerors orchestrated a mass distraction where they switched adults and children into two separate dimensions. This confusion allowed the Riddler to enter into the STAR Labs facility and steal a sample of the echinoderm alien. The tentacle of Starro was later presented to the Brain and the rest of the Light where it demonstrated to had regenerated slightly since being blown up. As part of their plans, the Light attempted to enlist the expertise of T. O. Morrow to re-engineer the Starro sample but were unable to recover the scientist as he was in a coma. Instead, they managed to get the aid of Professor Ivo after which both Klarion and the Brain conducted their experiments on the sample whereupon they managed to escape from the Young Justice team.

Cheshire was later seen carrying a briefcase with the echinoderm from Ashville where Young Justice attempted to intercept it only to be ambusbed by a group of supervillains that were defeated. By this point, the Light had successfully engineered a sophisticated bio-chip from the Starro organism which they called Starro-tech. The sample retrieved was studied by Batman who revealed it to be highly advanced technology. However, the Light used a clone sleeper agent of Roy Harper to attach the new Starro-tech into the Justice League members once he was initiated into the Watchtower. As a result, the entire League fell under the control of the Light who attempted to use them for a grand scheme to further the evolution of the Human race. However, Young Justice managed to develop Cure-tech with the help of Queen Mera, Vulko, Serling Roquette and Amanda Spence that removed the infection thus foiling Vandal Savage's plans.

Background

These small bio-chips were manufactured from the Starro organism that were some kind of biotechnology that was integrated with nanomachinery. It was the product of advanced scientific methods pioneered by the Light that created a unique combination of alien bio-organism, genetic engineering, nano-technology and techno-sorcery. These chips simply needed to be planted on an individual whereupon they absorbed themselves into the body in a process that took 0.16 nano-seconds to accomplish as they infused themselves into the host's nervous system. This allowed them to control any kind of host whether it was human, alien, inorganic or magical. Such individuals were mind controlled and became slaves to the control interface used by the Light. Through the interface, an individual was able to determine which individuals were under their control or free of it. One of the problems associated with Starro-tech was that the enslaved minds were all under the control of a single being thus limiting the controlled beings in their performance capabilities in battle.

One of the only methods of defeating Starro-tech was by utilizing Cure-tech that was a similar chip implant that was absorbed into the skin of a being. Once exposed, the cure took time to free an infected person and rendered them unconscious whilst it eliminated the Starro-tech. An individual that was healed with Cure-tech was subsequently immune to further Starro-tech implantation.
