History

The Fall was a great megastructure that was built on Earth in the 22nd century by mankind when space on the planet became a premium. During this time, a great majority of the world became uninhabited where most regions became toxic unlivable areas known as No Zones with only two major population bases. In the north was the United Federation of Britain that consisted of the rich upper class who resided in stacked structures whilst the poor underpriveleged lived in ghettos in the Colony which was situated at Australia. At some point, an effort was made to link the two regions for ease of transportation leading to the building of a structure that travelled through the core of the planet between the two points which was in operation by 2084. This allowed individuals from both sides to travel to one another in record time. This structure became a symbol of economic and political oppression to the inhabitants of the Colony. However, the actions of Britain led to the Resistance leader Matthias starting a movement that proclaimed that the Fall enslaved the people of the Colony. After Carl Hauser was captured by the UFB, his mind was reprogrammed with a new persona called Douglas Quaid making him believe he was an ordinary civilian worker that manufactured Synthetics. During this time, he made regular travels through the Fall to get to his place of employment. Quaid eventually discovered that he was a former intelligence operative for the Resistance who learnt that Chancellor Coophagen had orchestrated bombings on his own nation and blame the Colony in order to justify an inavasion. This was because the UFB intended to destroy the Colony and remake it to suit their population needs with the Chancellor ordering an army of Synthetics into the Fall which served as the method of delivering their forces to the Colony. Hauser managed to escape from UFB custody and boarded the mag-lev cylinder on the Fall which was delivering the invading army where he detonated explosives onboard the cylinder when it arrived at the Colony thus ending the invasion. This act caused the damaged mag-lev to fall from its tether into the shaft where the travel cylinder exploded.

Overview

It consisted of a cylindrical structure that served as the transportation mechanism for travellers. A single tether structure was situated at two opposing points on the planet where the cyclinder latched onto it. When ready to depart the tether housing, the cylinder was simply released whereupon it went into a freefall movement down the shaft into the core of the planet. Upon reaching the core, the travel cylinder went through a gravity shift where a brief moment of weightlessness was experienced before gravity returned. During this point, the chairs within rotated from one orientation to the opposite so that the travellers were reoriented for eventual arrival. After passing the core, the travel cylinder approached the destination tether where it emerged from the ground and latched onto the housing whereupon the travellers simply disembarked. The transition meant that individuals once sitting on the floor became displaced as the floor became the cieling whilst the cieling became the floor. The journey was capable of taking up to seventeen minutes long where the large cyclinder went through a brief yet highly fast journey.

The Fall contained a number of bays for storage ranging from 3 to 87 that allowed for storage of entire armies of synthetics to vehicles. Travel through the Fall required a current transit visa which could be issued at the Information Office.

Notes

  • In pre-production, the Fall was called the China Fall before the name was changed.
