History

Origin

One origin seemingly attributed to the Carrier was that they were examples of nanotechnology that were used by the Monitors. (Final Crisis: Superman Beyond v1 #1)

The Doctor and the Engineer were noted to had discovered an abandoned Carrier which they considered a fortunate encounter as it made the perfect headquarters for the Jenny Sparks newly created team known as The Authority. (The Authority v1 #1) It was used during the global assault on the world launched by Kaizen Gamorra where the Engineer confessed to Midnighter that they knew very little of the vessel though the Doctor was attempting to learn more of it. (The Authority v1 #3)

The New 52

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of history was created with a different series of events.

After taking over the Carrier, Vandal Savage put forward his plans with taking over the planet. (Superman Annual v2 #3)

Overview

The Carrier moving through the Bleed.

A Carrier was fifty miles long and thirty five miles high. They were powered by a caged baby universe. (The Authority v1 #1) Though a vessel, in reality it was alive and moved by its own commands though its occupants were capable of exerting influence over it. (The Authority v1 #3)

They were capable of interdimensional travel such as going through the Devachanic Realm, Dimension Eleven, and the Bleed. Even whilst moving through the higher planes, they were able to remain over the orbit of a planet. (The Authority v1 #1) In actuality, it existed outside space and time yet still resided within real space due to the deployment of a reality anchor. This was achieved by locking itself onto a three dimensional location and chronal procession namely the flow of time in the region it was anchoring. (The Authority v1 #3)

One method of travel available to its crew were Doors that opened on voice command and allowed instant access to anywhere on a world with the opening door forming in the junction room. (The Authority v1 #1) The operation of Doors were linked to the Carriers dimemsional nature as it existed everywhere at its anchor point. When a destination was requested, a user simply walked through the portal and emerged at their destination. Theoretically, it outside a planet yet still within it thus allowing a Door to function anywhere around a world. (The Authority v1 #3)
