The Rossum Corporation is a business that features in Dollhouse.

History

The Rossum Corporation was a company that was established on Earth in the 20th century.

It was responsible for establishing the network of Dollhouses. (Episode: Echoes)

Overview

The company was considered evil to some and was said to be incredibly powerful corporation that held a great deal of influence in society. One of its division was Rossum Private Security which handled matters relating to security. (Episode: Echoes)

Products of the company included:

• N-7316 : an experimental memory drug that was a psychotropic modification of a phenethylamine compound. It broke down natural inhibitions in the hippocampus in order to awaken sleeping parts of the brain. Phase 1 manifested like a recreational narcotic with symptoms including giddiness, light hallucinations, a sudden desire to eat whilst Phase 2 was said to result in a complete loss of impulse control. Within the company was another secret subsidiary organization known as Scytheon which acted as a military branch for the corporation. This allowed it to have access to Rossum technology in order to develop new military based weaponry or equipment. One of their projects was known under the code name as "Mind Whisper" and involved the abduction of ex-military Actives in order to enlist them as a private military group. By implanting them with neuro-radio's, these soldiers became part of a group mind that were telepathically linked through the implants on their necks. This allowed them to act as one unit and one mind in combat engagements.

A key feature of the corporation was the Rossum mainframe computer with this being referred to internally as the Attic. This consisted of wards that used living human beings placed in a coma-like state where their brains were used a processors and living human computers. As human brains were 20 times more powerful than the most massive mutli-processing computer this was deemed as a more practical and efficient system. Rossum maintained many Attic facilities with hundreds being networked to a central hub with their brains being soaked in adrenaline from fear to keep them running at maximum efficiency thus making them the processing power of the corporation.
