- Zartan was created by Hasbro and featured in the setting of G.I. Joe.
- As noted in the Heritage Comics and Comic Art Auction #7027, the character was originally named as Captain Chameleon but as stated in The Ultimate Guide to G.I. Joe. he was renamed as Zartan by writer Larry Hama with the name being an anagram for Tarzan.
