She came to be a member of the Chinese People's External Security Force and served as a secret agent as well as a spy.

- Wai Lin was portrayed by actor Michelle Yeoh where she featured in the setting of Tomorrow Never Dies.
- Early scripts for Die Another Day indicated that Wai Lin was set to return in the film where she was to aid Bond in Hong Kong but the plot never occurred with the character replaced with a new Chinese Intelligence agent named Mr. Chang.
