Project Manticore is an organization that features in Dark Angel.

History

Project Manticore was a top secret government entity known as the Committee that sponsored numerous black ops programs authorises the creation of Project Manticore in the year 1993 which was the creation of an experimental program in transgenics to produce superior Human soldier. By the year 1994, Manticore was cleared for genetic coding and starts the X-1 project in producing a Human looking transgenic soldier.

In the same year, the work of the scientist known as Sandeman's was brought to the attention of the U.S. military who offer him funding and assign him to Manticore. There, he continued his research in the creation of transhuman/transgenics with his primary experiment involving feline based DNA.

Overview

In appearance, Manticore was a secret black-ops government project that worked in genetics experiments.

The goal of Project Manticore was the creation of genetically engineered super soldiers. To accomplish this, they began numerous secret transgenic experiments to create such a weapon which led to the creation of the X5's. However, an escape attempt resulted in many of the escaping which included Max Guevara. Due to the fact that such individuals essentially looked normal, it made the attempt in capturing them almost impossible once they entered the general population.

The organization was headed by a Director who was answerable to a Committee that handled the projects funding and continuation.

• X-5 series : one of the prides of the project which were an improvement over the previous series. The largest class was in the Gillette Wyoming facility that consisted of 60 soldiers with their experiment doubles in the Seatle-Washington base. They were considered the first successful development of the transgenic program which were bred to be the perfect soldier and were the first to have been successful cloned or twinning to create double soldiers for various experiments. The X-5's were created and trained with individuality in mind to serve as an officer class. While perhaps the best development in the entire program, the X-5'd also suffered from some genetic defects that caused pain and death. The most serious affliction suffered by the series was a condition called tremors caused by a chemical imbalance in their brains which was only eleviated by the use of tryptophan on regular intervals.
• X-6 series : created to improve on the X-5 transgenics and were designed to be better, stronger as well as faster. The one problem with these genetically engineered soldiers was the fact that all their advancements were hindered due to the brain washing procedures made by psy-ops in order to ensure their loyalty to Manticore. This had the affect of removing the X-6's loyalty to one another.

The primary base of operations was located in the Rocky Mountains outside Gillette, Wyoming.
