N. Zyme
Dr. N. Zyme is the slightly absentminded former colleague of Dr. Elrod Purvis and biochemist who worked at Megakat Biochemical Labs. Dr. Zyme was the one most responsible for the creation of Viper Mutagen 368, which he hoped would solve world hunger. Unfortunately the formula was flawed, and in trying to steal it for selfish monetary purposes, Purvis accidentally spilled the chemical onto himself and thus was transformed into Dr. Viper. Zyme was then taken hostage by Viper along with Mayor Manx and Deputy Mayor Briggs, with the evil biochemist planning to mutate all three of them into half cat, half snake creatures like himself. Luckily, they were saved by the timely arrival of the Swat Kats.
Dr. Zyme would come into conflict with his old assistant a second time when Viper sent an army of giant bacteria monsters to attack Megakat Biochemical in the hopes of stealing the rare biochemical compound Katalyst 99. Zyme attempted to combat the rampaging bacteria monsters using the most powerful antibiotics known to catkind, but unfortunately Viper had planned ahead and made his bacteria immune to antibiotics. Zyme is thought to have been killed when the final bacteria monster broke through the "indestructible" windows of the lab and ate him.
Comments
- Zyme's initial "N" comes from the model sheets for The Giant Bacteria and the script for The Origin of Dr. Viper and it is not known what it stands for.
- His name is a pun on "enzyme."
- Zyme's status as dead is somewhat uncertain. Show creators Christian and Yvon Tremblay claimed he "probably died," while writer Glenn Leopold said he was merely "survivally challenged" which is open to interpretation.
