Biography
Shinra Kusakabe (Japanese: 森羅日下部, Hepburn: Shinra Kusakabe) was a male human born on an Earth that was forever altered by the Great Cataclysm (大災害, Daisaigai) with him being raised by his mother who cared for him and his younger brother Shō Kusakabe by the Year 186. Around 12 years ago, he was in his family's home when Sho's Adolla Burst was activated that created a fire that spread across the house. This also saw his mother transform into a Demon-Class Infernal along with awakening this power within Shinra as well. The young Shinra was unaware that the creature in the home was his mother and attempted to escape but instead passed out. At the time, the Special Fire Force arrived at the scene with Shinra asking them to escape his mother and brother. However, Captain Leonard Burns came to inform him that both had perished in the event with him being the only survivor of the event.
Shinra could not control his Ignition Ability which resulted in him staying at Haijima Industries who came to fit him with liquid nitrogen boots to suppress his ability. During his residence there, he along with the other children were provided no freedom or comforts as they were seen as nothing more than test subjects to the scientists there.
He was en route to Special Fire Cathedral 8 when he responded to an incident at a nearby train station where an Infernal had manifested at the scene. Shinra came to battle the creature when Company 8 arrived there to defeat the threat. During the fight, he came to save Sister Iris and introduced himself to the Company.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Shinra Kusakabe was a male teenager who had an average height with a slim muscular build alongside short and spiky black hair. Shinra had crimson eyes and especially sharp teeth. Kusakabe was known by the name of the Devil (悪魔, Akuma).
He was said to have this tendency to smile in situations where he was nervous. This came as a result of the ordeal and shock of his mother's death with this manifesting in cases of nervous laughter. As a result, his muscles in his face tended to tighten whenever he felt nervous resulting in his teeth being exposed and his mouth stretching into a smile.
As stated by Shinra, he came to hate fire for how it took his family away from him. However, he intended to use the power he had to avenge his family and stop further such tragedies from happening in the future.
He had a younger brother named Shō Kusakabe who he thought had been killed in the fire at their home. After learning he was alive, he attempted to do everything possible to be re-united with him.
Powers and abilities
From childhood, he came to manifest the ability to control fire with him being a Third Generation that had the power to ignite, manipulate and utilise flames that manifested from his feet. Typically, this meant that he left a trail of ashes on the floor with this being in the shape of his feet with these being referred to as the Devil's Footprints (悪魔の足跡, Akuma no Ashiato).
Under Captain Benimaru, Shinra was taught to utilize hand signs and seals in order to redirect and concentrate the energy in his body.
He possessed an Adolla Burst (アドラバースト, Adora Bāsuto) that was a spark of the flame of creation.
Through his Adolla Link, he was able to make a connection with one of the other worldly pyrokinetic beings and attain an Adolla Grace (伝導者の加護, Dendōsha no Kago). This was able to increase his abilities further and fight more powerful foes. In one case, he was able to temporarily grant himself the power of the Grace of the Evangelist (伝導者の加護, Dendōsha no Kago). Under his state, his power allowed him to momentarily dissolve his body and move at the speed of light.
Overuse of his powers over a long period of time could lead to his body overheating with the fire drawing the oxygen from himself.
