Biography

Pre-Crisis

It was said that he was a fire-eater in a circus until he lost a taste for that life. This came after he saw the celebrity known as Dream Girl and he fell in love with her. For private reasons, he came to fixate on a life of crime and using his former circus background to make the persona of Heat Wave. In his first outing, he ambushed the Flash when he was battling Captain Cold thus allowing the two villains to escape. Two looked to ally with one another until he found out that Captain Cold was also in love with Dream Girl. This saw the two competing for her love with the two looking to enact the most spectacular crime in Central City with the winner getting Dream Girl. (The Flash v1 #140)

Post-Crisis

Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Post-Flashpoint

Heat Wave in Flash v4 #11.

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

He later came to be possessed by the Sage Force that was looking for a host body to control its power. A flare up of the power caused the Flash and Detective Burns to be drawn in his mind where they attempted to help him get control over his ability before it consumed everyone in the city. He was noted to had created the Heat Gun as a weapon for use in his criminal ventures. It was said to be akin to a blowtorch where it was able to generate sizzling heat. (The Flash v1 #140)

  • Heat Wave was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino where he made his first appearance in The Flash v1 #140 (November, 1963).

  • In Justice League Unlimited, Heatwave appeared in the animated television series set in the DC Animated Universe where he was voiced by actor Lex Lang.
  • In Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Heat Wave appeared in the animated television series in the episode "Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster!" where he was voiced by actor Steven Blum.

Film

  • In Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, Heat Wave appeared briefly in the animated film in a non-voiced role

Video games

  • In DC Universe Online, Heat Wave appeared in the MMORPG video game where he was voiced by actor David Jennison. He was shown as a Tech Vendor situated in the Hall of Doom.
  • In Injustice 2, Heat Wave was mentioned in the dialogue interactions between Wonder Woman and Captain Cold where it was indicated that he was killed by the Regime in the fighting video game.
  • In DC: Unchained, Heat Wave appeared as a playable character in the setting of the mobile video game.
