Biography

Origin

Jonathan and his adoptive son in Action Comics v1 #869.

Jonathan Kent

His father Matthew Kent went to fight in the Spanish-American War where he served as a hero but was injured with him being sent to a veteran's hospital. When his father was a patient at hospital, Jonathan's uncle Simon Kent came to stay at the family home. The man was an ex-soldier where he helped raise Jonathan with him being strict of the boy during his youth. (Superboy v1 #113)

He and Martha travelled to the Smallville Orphanage where they decided to help adopt a child. This saw them taking in a ginger-haired Allen Greene where he revealed to the Kents that he was actually an alien named Vidal. He asked them to keep his secret and was actually part of the Intergalactic Patrol who wanted to assess the Kents as fit parents for Superboy. Vidal confirmed that the Kents were indeed ideal adoptive parents for Superboy and with his mission complete he left Earth to re-join the patrol. (Adventure Comics v1 #260)
