History
Intelligent Devices (Japanese: インテリジェントデバイス, Hepburn: Interijiento Debaisu) were a type of Devices (デバイス Debaisu) that contained an artificial intelligence in their programming and embedded in various different types of items.
Overview
In appearance, an Intelligent Device were objects that came in a wide variety of shapes and forms. They operated as a kind of Magical Terminal (魔導端末 Madō Tanmatsu) for mages and served as versatile tools. Their basic function was to augment their master's magic abilities and assist them in casting spells. As such, they operated as a kind of magical computer that took over tasks that the human brain could handle efficiently enough, such as recording and reproducing the spells that the mage had cast. The close cooperation between mage and Intelligent Device meant that both had to be attuned to each other upon the Device's first activation. Afterwards, regularly recalibrations were needed to ensure optimal performance.
They had their own automated regenerative systems that repaired any damage done on the device.
Upon the Device's first activation, its master additionally gives it a unique name. A Device had the ability to exercise its own will in choosing the person who could wield it.
Specialised skills were needed in the construction of Devices with high-end ones being hand-crafted. This led to the formation of Device Meister (デバイスマイスター Debaisu Maisutā) who operated as Device engineers that could diagnose and repair Intelligent Devices.
