Biography
Origin
Eren Yeager (Japanese: エレン・イェーガー Hepburn: Eren Yēgā) was the son of Dr. Grisha Yeager and his wife Carla Yeager who was born in the city behind the Walls that resided on Paradis Island.
As a young boy, he came to grow up in Shiganshina District that was a southernmost town at Wall Maria that was an outer wall of Paradis.
He was 10-year-old where he dreamed of joining the Survey Corps in order to explore the outside world beyond the walls. A year ago, he accompanied his father as they travelled outside of town to visit the Ackerman family. Arriving at their cabin, came to find the Ackerman's murdered with the killers looking to kidnap their daughter Mikasa Ackerman.

Transforming, he immediately attacked the military delegation present for the festival and brutally destroyed anyone at the scene in an effort to decapitate the Marleyan military. With Willy Tybur dead, his sister manifested her own transformation and turned into the War Hammer Titan who battled Eren's Attack Titan.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Eren Yeager was a young man of average height and muscular build. He once assumed the identity of Mr. Eren Kruger (クルーガーさん, Kurūgā-san).
He later said that the only thing he wanted was his friends to be safe.
His father was a doctor named Grisha Yeager and his mother was Carla Yeager. According to Sadies, Eren resembled his mother though he had the sharp eyes of his father.
Unknown to him, he had an older half-brother by the name of Zeke Yeager who was born from his father's previous wife in Marley.
Powers and abilities
Eren Yeager was born as a human descendant of Eldia' (エルディア Erudia?) where he was one of the Subjects of Ymir (ユミルの民 Yumiru no Tami?). This meant that he had the genetic potential to be turned into a Titan (巨人 Kyojin?, lit. "Giant(s)") that were giant humanoids. In this state, he would be a mindless being who generally consumed humans or was directed by the intelligence of some the Nine Titans (九つの巨人 Kokonotsu no Kyojin?). For Eren, he remained largely unaware of this in his life and as such retained a relatively normal childhood. This was until the Walls were breached and the Titans attacked the city forcing him to be evacuated from his home. In the aftermath, he came to join the ranks of the military (軍事 Gunji?) in order to be able to fight Titans. Upon joining the 104th squad, he trained extensively in hand-to-hand combat where he scored top marks in this class with him being second only to Mikasa and Annie.
As a Descendant of Ymir, he had the potential to be turned into a Titan and could inherit the abilities of an intelligent Titan by consuming one with the power. Eren's power was first triggered in him by his father who came to use a Titan injection (巨人の注射 Kyojin no chūsha?) to forcibly trigger his transformation. In that moment, he was turned into a mindless Titan where Grisha had his son consume him in order to inherit the power of the Nine Titans that had been stolen by Eren's father. This led to him claiming the power of the Attack Titan (進撃の巨人 Shingeki no Kyojin?, also translated as Attacking Titan) which allowed Eren's mind to be restored to him and the power to return back to his human form. At first, the trauma of the incident was blocked from his memory and he had forgotten about this event. However, he retained the ability to transform into a Titan where his form was that of 15m titan with shoulder-length black hair, pointy ears, and a huge mouth. To trigger the transformation, he typically had to bite his hand that send a bolt of yellow electricity whereupon his Titan body began to form. Within the Titan body, he was placed within the nape of the neck that was also a vulnerable spot. Other abilities afforded to him was the ability to regenerate his body so long as his head remained undamaged.
From a serum, he gained the power to harden his Titan skin similar to the Female Titan. He was able to extend the hardened material outwards after extensive practice where he could dispel it from his body to help form over walls.
Unknown to Eren at first, he also inherited another power from his father which was that of the Founding Titan (始祖の巨人 Shiso no Kyojin?, also translated as Progenitor Titan. This was the leading power held by the Reiss family that were royals that ruled the city in the island of Paradis. Initially, he could not fully use this Titan's abilities which included a Scream (叫び Sakebi?) which could create and control other Titans. It also had the power to modify the memories and body compositions of the Subjects of Ymir though he lacked control over it due to not being of pure royal Eldian blood. An aspect of this power was that of the Coordinate (座標 Zahyō?) ability allowing for control over other Titans.
During the raid on Liberio, he also came to steal the power of the War Hammer Titan (戦鎚の巨人 Sentsui no Kyojin?) that was one of the Nine Titans and had been held by Marley.
After joining the military, he came to enlist in the ranks of the Survey Corps (調査兵団 Chōsa Heidan?).
Notes
- Eren Yeager was created by Hajime Isayama where he featured in the setting of Attack on Titan.
- On the Anime News Network, Isayama noted that the character was created in order to make an, "an ordinary youngster who gets paralyzed with fear when his blue eyes see a titan".
