Biography

Ban in The Seven Deadly Sins v1 #3.

Ban (Japanese: バン, Hepburn: Ban) was a male human born over 30 years ago in Ravens in the land of Britannia with it being known that he had a young sister named Kilia. The two lived on the streets without their parents where his sister came to pass away from hunger leaving Ban all alone. He came to make a living by stealing from others leading to him being constantly chased and beaten by his victims. This was until one day when he was caught and sent to Aberdeen Prison where a man offered him food that Ban gluttonously accepted by eating it as he was starving. He came to escape prison alongside the man who was called Zhivago where they managed to reach his hideout. At some point, he was kidnapped and told to Lord Roxanu but was saved again by Zhivago who happened to be robbing from the noble's cargo wagon that was there at the scene. It was then that Zhivago decided to teach Ban how to steal and be a thief but warned him that such a lifestyle had many dangers. Despite that, the young boy accepted and was taught how to seal though Ban's initial attempts on his own were failures that led to him being caught. He continued to learn and stayed with Zhivago who became a parental figure to the young boy. In their time together, the older thief told Ban many stories such as the tale of the Fountain of Youth and its guardian saint that resided in the Fairy King's Forest.

When he hears that Meliodas was alive, Ban, wanting to meet his captain, easily escaped from his prison cell, and was immediately confronted by Jericho, who tried to kill him. Ban easily dodged all of Jericho's slashes and even purposely let her cut his hair. When Jericho is shocked that he dodged her attacks despite his severe wounds, Ban shows her that they have already healed, and points to his scar as the only scar he ever received. Ban then took Jericho's armor and clothes in an attempt to find decent armor before leaving.[5] Disappointingly, he discovered the armor to be too small, after which Ban came across a guard looking lustfully at a captive woman. He glanced at her, showing some interest, and proceeded to smash the guard's head into the bars. He then entered the cell by bending the bars, and told the woman that she was his before stealing the dagger that she had hidden in her clothes. He commented on its good quality and tested it out by cutting her chains. She thanked him for releasing her, and requested the dagger back; however, he refused and declared that it belonged to him, which greatly frightened her. Jude arrived, intending to kill him, though Ban merely greeted the Holy Knight in return and asked for the reason he wished to kill him, with Jude answering that he had no more use for him since he had already fulfilled his role as a bait for Meliodas. Engaging Jude in combat, Ban was quickly stabbed in the chest by one of the Holy Knight's thorn-like weapons. He, however, explained that he had actually let himself be captured five years earlier, and the reason for it. After removing the weapon from his chest, he easily stabbed Jude in the chest, expressing his excitement about the Holy Knights declaring war on the Seven Deadly Sins. Together with the frightened Sennett, Ban left the Baste Dungeon and encountered Meliodas, Diane, Hawk, and Elizabeth. He and Meliodas then greeted, high-fived each other, and then started arm wrestling, which resulted in the entire dungeon being destroyed. Afterwards, he told Meliodas that he was glad to see him again. With the dungeon destroyed, he, along with the others and the imprisoned villagers, headed to Dalmary Town, where he went off on his own, stealing a set of red, studded clothes from a random villager. Later that night, Ban was introduced to Elizabeth and noticed that Hawk is a talking pig, which greatly shocked him. During the party, he started drinking and even rode on top of Hawk. Together with the rest of the group, he looked up at the sky to see it filled with crossing shooting stars, falling asleep on Hawk soon after.

Within that realm, time passed differently causing Ban to experience countless years whilst wandering the desolate landscape. Numerous times, he fell to his baser instincts causing him to transform into a demonic fox-like form that battled the other denizens in that land. Each time, he managed to snap himself back to normal and continued his search for Meliodas's soul though had no idea what form this would take in this dimension.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Ban was a very tall muscular man with tanned skin who had well-developed abdominal muscles and he usually walked with a slouch. He also had short, spiky, pale blue hair and shin black eyebrows whilst he had scarlet-red eyes. By adulthood, he became a noted outlaw and was referred to as Bandit Ban. Among the Deadly Sins, he was known as the Fox's Sin of Greed.

It was shown that he was easily excitable and became interested in unusual things. An example of this was encountering Hawks for the first time where he was not scared at meeting a talking pig but fascinated by the encounter.

He had a younger sister by the name of Kilia who always followed him when they were children. According to Ban, she passed away from starvation when she was only 4 years old leaving him without any family.

As a child, he lived on the streets as a thief where he came under the wing of Zhivago who became his adoptive father. The man taught him everything he knew about being a thief and avoiding getting caught by people. In that time, Ban came to consider Zhivago to be the only person he ever trusted.

Ban later came to marry Elaine with the two of them having a son together named Lancelot.

Powers and abilities

Originally, Ban was an ordinary human being who had no special talent at first but came to be taught to be a thief.

Within the Fairy Forest, he came to drink from the Fountain of Youth (生命の泉, Inochi no Izumi) that was a sacred treasure of the Fairy Clan. This liquid was noted to had made Ban immortal where he was capable of regenerating from nearly any wound or injury on his body. Typical magical effects were said to disperse after the death of their host but the waters healed Ban even after his head was destroyed. Thus, it was said to be a magical attribute that effectively made Ban immortal. He was shown as capable of surviving many centuries within Purgatory where his body allowed him to adapt, live, hunt and fight in the hellish landscape.

He came to be a wielder of the special ability of Snatch (強奪スナッチ, Sunacchi). This allowed Ban to rob physical objects either by grabbing them or stealing their physical abilities for him whereby he weakened them whilst gaining in strength as well as speed. However, it was revealed that this ability had a limit as there was only so much strength Ban could rob from a person before its power began to overwhelm him and damage him as a result. He was known to use this power to steal body parts from a person such as a heart or an army that he did so in the blink of an eye. Ban was known to use this as a means of fatally injuring his opponents such as using Snatch to cause their hearts to emerge in the air whereupon he destroyed them with a physical strike.

Among his abilities and techniques included:

  • Physical Hunt (身体狩りフィジカルハント Fijikaru Hanto; literally meaning "Body Hunt") :
  • Fox Hunt (獲物狩りフォックスハント Fokkusu Hanto; literally meaning "Game Hunt") :
  • Hunter Fest (狩りの祭典ハンターフェス Hantā Fesu; literally meaning "Festival of Hunting") : a technique that allowed the user to steal the physical strength of every living creature within a hundred foot radius of himself. However, there was a limit to how much strength that could be robbed from a person. Upon reaching the limit, Ban was incapable of robbing any more power from others as it would put his own body in danger. Using this ability to its limit resulted in Ban becoming heavily fatigued to the point that he was incapable of even accomplishing the most basic of tasks such as walking.
  • Zero Sign (絶気配ゼロサイン Zero Sain; literally meaning "Suppressed Presence") :
  • Crazy Hunt (乱獲クレイジーハント, Kureijī Hanto; literally meaning "Over-hunting") :
  • Gift (贈与ギフト, Gifuto) :
  • Crazy Rush (クレイジー・ラッシュ, Kureijī Rasshu) :

He came to wield a Sacred Treasure that was known as the Holy Staff Courechouse (聖棍 クレシューズ, Seikon Kureshūzu) that was an ornate four section-staff.

Due to his skill and ability, he came to be a member of Meliodas's band of knights who were known as the Seven Deadly Sins.
