Gavin Royle

Gavin Royle was an assistant curator at the British Museum. He joined Professor Lowson's expedition to the Wash near Sutton in the hopes of finding King John's lost treasure. What they found instead was a monster which became known as the "Slime Beast." Gavin advocated involving the authorities, especially after the creature killed two people. Lowson refused, intent on capturing the beast alive. After numerous run-ins with both the Slime Beast and the angry residents of Sutton who blamed the archaeologists for the monster's appearance, Gavin finally slew the best with a flamethrower. During the ordeal, he'd become involved with Professor Lowson's niece, Liz, and the two married and had a daughter, Amy. Gavin experienced PTSD over his encounter with the Slime Beast, and on the insistence of his wife and daughter he returned to Sutton several years in the hopes of overcoming his fears, only to discover a second creature plaguing the town. Along with wildfowling guide Brian Bromley and Superintendent Waller, Gavin was able to stop and kill this second Slime Beast.
