Biography
He had published a book called "Are We Alone?" that postulated the existence of extraterrestrial life but was not a successful publication. A young Lex Luthor had the book within his collection where he believed that whilst it had rudimentary theories written in a cretinous flair that it posed serious questions for the world. (Superman: Secret Origin v1 #1)
His body was later discovered by his laboratory assistant Fred Schneider with news of the death reported to the police. Both Schneider and the Professor's niece Anna Erdel were both prime suspects as the latter inherited her uncle's patents along with his wealth. For years, the case remained opened as it was not solved on what was responsible for Professor Erdel's death. Hawkman Katar Hol and Hawkgirl Shayera Hol later discovered that it was the computer that had been responsible for the murder after it gained intelligence. (Detective Comics v1 #500)
