History
The Dark Crystal was an event that occurred every thousand years on Thra, wherein its three suns would align. Aughra described the event as being possibly the end of the world...or its beginning. The first Conjunction resulted in the simultaneous creation of the Skeksis and Mystics from the UrSkeks through harnessing its power via the Crystal of Truth, and the planet's subsequent pillaging by the Skeksis. The second Conjunction would see the wounded Crystal healed by a Gelfling, Jen, and the reunification of the races and the return of Thra to its former splendor.
Overview
A Great Conjunction occurs every nine hundred and ninety-nine and one trine. Its arrival was noted as a herald for great change that could be good or bad.
The burning light focused towards Thra during the very first Great Conjunction is responsible for creating the Great Shaft and revealing the Crystal deep within the mountain. When a sun shone down the shaft of the Crystal, all life on Thra could feel the trembling from the Crystal. The Crystal sings quietly at the lesser conjunctions of the two Suns; but at the Great Conjunction, the song of the Crystal resounded through all the rocks of Thra.
