Max Reed

A scruffy CIA agent, Max Reed was contacted by Dr. Tetsu Segawa of the Chronos Corporation with news that Chronos had in their possession the Guyver, the deadliest weapon since the atom bomb. He and his immediate superior, Colonel Castle, arranged to meet Segawa, but unfortunately the scientist was intercepted by Zoanoid thugs working for Chronos and killed, and the Guyver lost.

Max was forced to break the bad news to Segawa's daughter, Mizky, and afterwards appointed himself her protector when he realized that the Zoanoids might come after her if they thought she had the Guyver. In the meantime, his desires to investigate the Chronos Corporation and question Fulton Balcus were hampered by Colonel Castle (who Max did not know was working with Balcus).

When the Zoanoids finally succeeded in capturing Mizky, and seemingly killing her boyfriend Sean Barker, who had in fact been in possession of the Guyver, Max was also taken prisoner. He was placed inside a tank within Chronos' hidden laboratory and put through the process of being made into a Zoanoid.

When Sean's body was remade by the Guyver after it had been swallowed by Dr. East, he freed Max from the tank. Unfortunately, he in doing so interrupted the process and left Max's mutation fatally incomplete. Max partially transformed into an insect-like Zoanoid and then perished, but before dying he made Sean promise to stop Balcus and the Chronos Corporation at all costs.
