Merklynn is a male wizard that features in Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light.

Biography

Merklynn was a powerful magic user from the world of Prysmos who had existed during the prior Age of Magic. In this time, he was noted to had encountered the mischievous Sun Imps that terrorised the lands until the people united in imprisoning the creatures in a tomb-like prison that was buried underground. This era came to an end during the start of the Age of Science with magic disappearing from the planet. In this time, Merkylnn disappeared from Prysmos where he stayed within his shrine located on Iron Mountain. He remained there for generations until the next alignment of the three suns of Prysmos that caused the end of the Age of Science. With magic returning, all form of technology began to stop with civilisation around the planet coming to a standstill. Humans on Prysmos thus returned to a more feudal based civilisation around the planet with kingdoms forming in an era with no technology. After years had passed, Merklynn decided to herald the new Age of Magic once more with him deciding to enlist knights to his cause. Among those he courted was Lord Darkstorm but the tyrannical monarch refused to believe in magic and refused the wizard. The wizard then arrived at the kingdom of New Valarak where he approached King Leoric. Initially, the king did not believe in magic until Merklynn demonstrated his power. It was then that King Leoric agreed to Merklynn's terms which involved bringing all those invited to Iron Mountain where they were tasked with going through its various traps and trials in order to reach the inner shrine. Lord Darkstorm was among the participants as he decided to take part in fear that any power would be claimed by Leoric. During the trials, Merkylnn witnessed the various knights in order to observe their performance as they finally entered the shrine. As they entered, Merklynn praised the efforts of the knights where gave them their respective rewards. This included animal totems based on their respective personalities allowing the knights to turn into the creatures emblazoned on their armour. He also provided a unique ability that was given to their Power Staffs which could only be used once and required them to be recharged by the wizard again. Merkylnn stated that from time to time that the knights that gained his power were required to serve him on any tasks that he assigned them. He reprimanded any knight that questioned the powers that he had given them before using his power to cause a surge of water to deposit all the knights through a large drain leaving them outside Iron Mountain. Merkylnn later appeared in disguise during the conflict with the Darkling Lords with the Spectral Knights when Darkstorm along with his forces being defeated. In the guise of an old man, the wizard approached the captive Darkstorm where he gave him a magical key that would allow him to escape capture at a time whenever he needed.

The Spectral Knights and Darkling Lords later approached him where during their in-fighting they discovered the tomb of the Sun Imps that had been opened up during an earthquake. Merklynn praised the knights for not opening it as he revealed the nature of the prisoners within it and bade both groups with burying the tomb once more. Unknown to him, an accident led to the tomb's doors being opened and the Imps being freed once more where they brought chaos to the lands. As they targeted the knights, their leader Abraxas went to Iron Mountain to confront Merklynn himself. Despite Merkylnn's power, he was caught in the Sun Imps mystical trap and forced to deal with humiliating spells cast on him. This was until the sun had set which was when the Imps were transformed into their powerless animal forms and led to them going into hiding. Merklynn then called forth his knights where he revealed that the Sun Imps powers came from the suns themselves and that they had to be trapped in complete darkness in order to make them powerless. Thus, the Spectral Knights and Darkling Lords worked together in defeating their common foe. This led to Abraxas returning to Merklynn's shrine to confront the wizard once again. He cast a spell leading to the Sun Imp leader casting a counter spell to reverse its effects. Unknown to Abraxas, Merklynn had cast a spell of binding on him and when the Sun Imp reversed the magic it led to himself being captured in a bag. Abraxas then joined the other captive Sun Imps as the knights proceeded with burying them back in their prison tomb.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Merklynn resembled an elderly man with a black head and long grey beard and moustache. He was often garbed in a red robe with this being his most distinctive feature when he revealed his true form.

He did not favour any one side during the conflict between the Darkling Lords and the Spectral Knights.

Powers and abilities

Much of his power was channelled through the use of a magical crystal Orb that floated under his control. It could be used to achieve various magical acts such as creating creatures of magical light. He also had a number of magical spells contained in books that he kept with him and read their contents.

Within his shrine, he was said to possess magic of every possible description. He could award these to others such as magical keys that when used could teleport a person along with those around them to other locations allowing a person to escape captivity.
