- Lord of the Rings: c. 4599 BC (III 2463). The White Council is formed to deal with the growing threat of Dol Guldur. Around this time, Deagol finds the One Ring; Smeagol murders him and takes it for himself. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4592 BC (III 2470). Smeagol, cast out by his fellow hobbits, hides in the Misty Mountains. There, the One Ring will eventually transform him into Gollum. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4587 BC (III 2475). The forces of Mordor attack Gondor and destroy Osgiliath. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4582 BC (III 2480). Orcs begin blocking routes to Eriador through the Misty Mountains by building hidden strongholds. Sauron sends his minions to populate abandoned Moria. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4553 BC (III 2509). En route to Lorien through the Redhorn Pass, Celebrian, wife of Elrond, is attacked and receives a poisoned wound. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4552 BC (III 2510). Celebrian passes over the Sea. Calenardhon in Gondor is attacked by orcs and Easterlings; they are turned back by Eorl the Young at the Field of Celebrant. Eorl's people, the Rohirrim, are given Calenardhon, which later becomes Rohan. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 4517 BC (III 2545). Eorl dies in battle. (The Return of the King)
