History
Origin
The Great Ten (十豪侠, Shi Hao Xia)
Two years ago, a public opening ceremony was held in Beijing that unveiled the state-sponsored team to the Chinese public. (The Great Ten v1 #1)
Black Adam later came to form an international coalition based on the Freedom of Powers Treaty that looked to curtail the actions of the United States. China was among the signatories to the treaty leading to them being allies of Kahndaq. The Great Ten later responded to an intrusion into Chinese airspace when members of the Green Lantern Corps arrived in pursuit of the extraterrestrial villain Evil Star. They were joined by Black Adam who intended to fight off the Green Lanterns but the heroes were joined by the Rocket Red Brigade that were opposed by the Freedom of Powers Treaty nations. (52 v1 #6) After marrying Isis, Black Adam's views in consolidating power came to an end and instead he wanted to promote peace. Thus, he looked to disband the expansionist tendencies of the powers that joined the Freedom of Powers Treaty and instead wanted them to remain in their respective territories whilst eliminating any illegal Metahuman activity in their countries. Black Adam came to meet the Great Ten at the Great Wall of China where he revealed his decision before departing with his actions disappointing the Chinese government. (52 v1 #24) After Isis's death, Black Adam went into a murderous rage as he wanted revenge against Death of the Four Horsemen of Apokolips who had been given shelter in Bialya. This saw Black Adam attack the nation and begin murdering people as he sought his quarry with this leading to the Chinese government putting the Great Ten on high alert in the face of this alpha-level super powered threat. The team were deployed into Tibet to handle a 'riot' from the Lao Qiqong movement. (The Great Ten v1 #1)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.
Whilst pursuing a being with his powers, Superman along with Wonder Woman and Batman tracked the entity into China where they confronted the Great Ten. The Chinese team attacked the trinity for the intrusion until Superman defused a situation when the Great Ten's team mate Yeti had gone berserk. August General in Iron agreed to help the Man of Steel and took them to the laboratory of Dr. Omen. (Batman/Superman v1 #32)
Overview
They were gathered to consolidate superhuman power for the preservation of China. (52 v1 #6) The super-functionaries of the team were said to hold a duty to the security of the Chinese people. (52 v1 #45)
An oversight body for the group was the Standing Committee for Super-Functionary Affairs. The Politburo was responsible for authorising assignments. (The Great Ten v1 #1)
The base of operations for the Great Ten was at the Great Wall of China. (52 v1 #24)

Notes
- The Great Ten were created by Grant Morrison, J. G. Jones and Joe Bennett where they made their first appearance in 52 v1 #6 (June, 2006).
- In an interview on Newsarama, Grant Morrison wrote, "I'm pleased with the introduction of the Great Ten who grew out Paul Levitz' desire to see more international superheroes. After the first 52 story meeting I went home, dug out the reference material on Chinese history and culture I'd used to help create the backstory for the 'Xorn' character in New X-Men and hammered out a huge document complete with detailed origin stories and backgrounds for every member of the Great Ten, as well as some details of the Chinese Government's 'super-functionary' program."
