Biography
Lockjaw was the name given to a dog that served the Royal Family of the Inhumans. One account held that his origins were traced to decades ago when an Inhuman from Attilan travelled to Earth and mistook a dog for a human child. This Inhuman was arrested upon her return to Attilan by the guard who confiscated the animal which was later given to the Surgeon Supreme. The scientist alongside his aide Ernok decided to use the female dog for experiments in Terrigenesis. This was because King Randac intended to perform his own project on exposing his son to Terrigen whilst within the womb. Thus, the Genetics Council authorised an experiment on an animal test subject with this being the dog. She was impregnated so that her puppies could be exposed to Terrigenesis within the womb. The dog had a litter of five puppies with only one of these being born with Inhuman powers. The unborn Lockjaw was intelligent and became aware that the Surgeon Supreme intended to dispose of the other puppies as they lacked his enhanced abilities. Thus, Lockjaw used his powers of teleportation to transport his siblings elsewhere in the universe to protect them whereupon he himself was born. (Lockjaw v1 #4)
Several years ago, Lockjaw was present when Black Bolt's insane brother Maximus created the Trikon and unleashed it upon the Inhumans. In that time, Lockjaw assisted Black Bolt in stopping the energy creature by using his teleportational powers to banish it to the antimatter universe known as the Negative Zone. However, while Black Bolt was otherwise busy, Maximus used the opportunity to seize the Inhuman throne and force Black Bolt and his cousins Crystal, Gorgon, Triton, and Karnak into exile. Lockjaw accompanied the exiles as they also began searching for Crystal's sister Medusa, who went missing in the battle with the Trikon, and unknown to all wandered off with amnesia. (Inhumans Special v1 #1)
Lockjaw and his owners had tracked Medusa down to New York City. It was here that Lockjaw and the Inhumans first encountered the heroes known as the Fantastic Four. (Fantastic Four v1 #45) During a battle with the heroes, the Inhumans ordered Lockjaw to return them to Attilan for fear of capture by the Seeker, a minion of Maximus sent to capture them. (Fantastic Four v1 #46) There Black Bolt retook the Inhuman crown from Maximus with the help of the Fantastic Four. (Fantastic Four v1 #47) However Maximus had the last laugh when he erected his massive Negative Zone barrier around Attilan trapping all the Inhumans inside. (Fantastic Four v1 #48) Lockjaw wasn't trapped like the others and used his teleportation abilities to leave the Great Refuge. The Human Torch began trying to find a way to pierce the barrier to be reunited with Crystal, with whom he had fallen in love with. The Torch and his friend Wyatt Wingfoot found Lockjaw outside Attilan and hoped the dog could teleport them past the barrier. (Fantastic Four v1 #55) Instead of complying, Lockjaw instead took the pair on a series of jaunts to a series of bizarre parallel dimensions. (Fantastic Four v1 #56)

Alternate Versions
- In Tales from the Age of Apocalypse v1 #1 (1996), an alternate version of Lockjaw appeared in the Age of Apocalypse reality designated as Earth-295 in the Multiverse. On this Earth, Apocalypse had conquered North America, Apocalypse approached the Inhumans to gain access to the Terrigen Mist. However, the Inhumans refused to deliver such material. Maximus made a secret deal with Apocalypse. Maximus would give the Terrigen Mist to Apocalypse if the High Lord granted him a position in the Horsemen. Maximus then took over the Inhumans Royal Family, slaying all those who stood in his way, including Lockjaw. As the new Death, Maximus created twisted clones based on the Inhuman Royal Family that were loyal to him. The clone of Lockjaw clashed with the X-Men when they traveled to the Blue Area of the Moon to try to kill Apocalypse during a time when he was recuperating there. Lockjaw used its tuning fork to knock out Morph. The X-Men freed themselves and defeated Maximus. Despite the Inhumans' initial victory, Lockjaw and all of the Royal Family were killed when the Ship was destroyed by Sunfire.
- In Ultimate Fantastic Four Annual v1 #1 (2005), an alternate version of Lockjaw appeared in the Ultimate Marvel reality designated as Earth-1610 in the Multiverse. In this incarnation, he has teleportation powers as well. He leaves the Inhumans' Himalayan refuge with Crystal, who is running away because she was being forced to marry Black Bolt's brother, Maximus (only Crystal suspects he is mad). Lockjaw assists in saving Crystal from her pursuing guards but they eventually drag her back home anyway. They leave him behind and he brings the Fantastic Four for assistance. This is not well received as most of Inhuman society severely dislikes any outsiders. Black Bolt ends up destroying the evacuated Attilan simply because the Four "contaminated" it. Several of the Inhumans indicate they had conspired for Lockjaw to be left behind in the human world.
