Biography
Yami Sukehiro (Japanese: ヤミ・スケヒロ, Hepburn: Yami Sukehiro) was a male human who was originally from the Hino Country where he was the son of fishermen. One day, he was fishing by himself when he became shipwrecked and washed ashore in the Clover Kingdom. Whilst there, he faced many difficulties over the racial discrepancies and culture shock as he struggled to interact with natives of this land.
He later received a Grimoire where he began to develop a talent for Dark Magic. Despite this, others came to fear and hate him with many rumours surrounding Yami. It was this that brought him to the attention of Nacht Faust with the two getting alone and committing petty crimes together. Around this time, he came to encounter Captain named Julius Novachrono who was fascinated by Yami's magic and invited him to join the ranks of the Magic Knights. Months later, he took the Magic Knights Entrance Exam where he was recruited into Julius's squad the Grey Deer. As he was a foreigner, Yami did not know the native language and came to be taught by Julius allowing him to read and write. Whilst in the Grey Deer, he came to befriend Morgen Faust who was the younger twin brother of Nacht. Later on, Morgen came to die following an incident where in the years afterwards Yami came to visit Nacht at the grave of his brother. Sukehiro made a promise to Nacht that he would make him his vice-captain the day Yami became the captain of a squad. Sometime afterwards, his adventuring saw him travelling to the Witches Forest where he fought against the Witch Queen with him freeing Vanessa Enoteca's prison. On his 19th birthday, he was enjoying a noodle soup when an incident at House Roselei brought about by a Briar Magic curse caused him to spill his food. This led to him angrily cutting down the briars where he confronted Charlotte Roselei and chastised her for relying only on herself. This resulted in the curse halting and the briars dissolving with Charlotte falling in love with Yami. After beating up those who troubled him, Yami came to be chosen to lead the Black Bull squad of the Magic Knights. At the same time, William Vangeance had similarly become the captain of the Golden Dawn squad. Per his promise to Nacht, he came to appoint the Faust to serve as his vice-captain of the squad. Whilst looking for a base for his new squad, Yami investigated a large house that was rumored to be haunted and discovered Henry Legolant, the bedridden and deathly weak owner. Since Yami was creeped out by the idea of someone dying in the house, he promised to bring others to live there. He also came to recruit Henry as a squad member. During conflicts between the Clover Kingdom and the Diamond Kingdom, Yami fights and injures Lotus Whomalt, scaring and scarring the Diamond Kingdom mage.
Years later, before the annual Magic Knights Entrance Exam, Asta ran into Yami and other members of the Black Bull squad. Yami threatened to kill the boy but was stopped by the beginning of the exam. During the exam, Asta's athletic ability and determination came to impress and weird out the Black Bull's captain. When none of the other captains recruits Asta, Yami releases his magic power and tries to intimidate the boy. However, Asta remains determined, and amused by the boy's response, the captain recruited him. At the same time, Yami also came to recruit Noelle Silva the daughter of a royal house who was seen as an embarrassment by her family due to her inability to fully control her magic power. Later, Asta returns from the bathroom, and Yami threatens Asta again for making him wait and then throws the boy through Finral Roulacase's portal to the Black Bulls' base. It was there that Yami officially welcomed Asta into the ranks of the squad. After Asta introduced himself, Yami watched with the rest of the squad as Asta takes on Magna Swing's Black Bull Initiation Ceremony. During the ceremony, Yami noticed that Asta's Demon-Slayer Sword can cut and reflected mana. After the ceremony, Yami watches as Asta received his squad robe. Later that night, Yami noticed that Noelle's magic had started to go on a rampage. Upon reaching Noelle's location, Yami commented about how they will needed Asta to cut the mana since everyone else could hurt her. As Asta was hit by the rampaging Noelle, Yami caught Asta and then threw him whilst telling him to cut through the mana. After Asta managed to save Noelle, Yami complimented the kids for doing a good job. The next day, Yami gives Asta and Noelle their first mission: to accompany Magna on a boar hunt in Sosshi. Yami explained that the mission came as the result of a lost bet, and when Asta and Noelle complained, Yami forced them to take it by threatening to kill them. After Asta, Noelle, and Magna return from their mission, Yami compliments them for doing a good job and reveals that they have obtained a star. After Yami reveals that the squad has negative thirty stars, Yami gives Asta and Noelle their monthly wages. Later Yami sends Asta on a mission from the Wizard King to explore a dungeon, with Noelle and Luck Voltia. After the three leave for the dungeon, Yami talks with Vanessa about sending Asta and Noelle to the dungeon and the reason he sent Luck with them. After a while Yami remembers that the Golden Dawn sent a group to the dungeon too, and wondered if they will get along.
A week later, Yami notices that Asta is up and tells him that he did a good job with the dungeon even though he was in tatters. Yami also tells Asta that he is to head over to the Magic Knights headquarters and report what happened in the dungeon. As Luck gets excited to head to the headquarters, Yami informs him that he will be going on a mission with Magna instead. Charmy Pappitson offers to go in Luck's place, but Yami says that she is not going since she will just eat while there. After Asta, Noelle, and Charmy return from the capital and reveal that they have been promoted for their parts in the Undead Invasion, Yami explains the ranking for the Magic Knights and how Magna and Luck have not ranked up since they joined. Yami also tells Asta that he has done a good job, and noticing that Asta is worried, tells him that Fuegoleon Vermillion will not die. When Asta decides to train, Yami tells him that he should relax. Suddenly Finral invited Asta out, and Yami pointed out that Finral needed to work. After Noelle reported about the kidnapped children, Yami had Finral take them both to Nairn. Upon appearing in the cave, Yami blocked an attack by Licht. As Finral uses his magic to get the children and wounded to safety, Yami tells Finral to come back while blocking the spells that Licht launches at Finral. As Asta is amazed by Yami's skill and sword, Yami explains what his katana is all the while continuing to counter Licht's spell. Licht tries to attack Yami from behind, but Yami easily counters. As Yami and Licht start to talk, Licht tells a story about a powerful group that was killed by humans which Yami counters by telling Licht how he became the captain of the Black Bulls. As Valtos yells at Yami for making fun of Licht, Yami just yelled back about Valtos' face but was wounded for trying to counter Licht's spell.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Yami Sukehiro was a tall man with a very muscular build who had grey eyes and black hair of medium length that was messily combed backward making it stick outwards. Additionally, he sported a stubble moustache and beard. Such was his reputation that he came to be known as the Destruction God (破壊神, Hakaishin).
Typically, he was shown to be a stoic figure who believes more in actions than in words. He is very hot-headed, who can be easily angered by small matters such as being bumped by another person or interrupted when talking
Sukehiro had a preference in instilling tough love to his subordinates by giving them dangerous missions. He believed that a fighter should always work on surpassing their limit and become stronger in the process. Yami also does not discriminate people according to their social status or circumstances where he is willing to accept Luck Voltia, Noelle Silva, and Asta to join his ranks, even though he is aware of each of their problems.
Powers and abilities
From his homeland, he was trained in the art of Ki (氣) that was a natural energy given off by people and objects when they moved. Yami was trained in the ability to sense the ki generated by others with each person's being unique. With this talent, he as able to detect whether someone was lying. By using ki, he was able to predict and react to attacks that others could not keep with and counter. Using ki, Yami can predict and react to attacks that others cannot keep up with[32] and nonchalantly counters these attacks without having to turn around.
Yami naturally possesses tremendous levels of physical strength which he further increases with magic. He can easily throw Asta a considerable distance with just one hand
He made use of a custom-made sword whichw as a katana that was a blade that originated from his homeland. Such was his skill in swordmanship that he was easily able to fight on par with Patolli with nothing but swordplay in conjunction with his Dark Magic which destroyed the surrounding environment.
Upon gaining magic power, he came to gain a three-leaf grimoire that manifested in Dark Magic (闇魔法, Yami Mahō). As a captain of a Magic Knights squad, he came to possess an immense amount of magic power. Anti-birds were shown to flee as soon as they realized his presence. Even the slightest release of his power was shown to be able to intimidate multiple people.

A citizen of the Clover Kingdom (クローバー王国 Kurōbā Ōkoku), he came to join the ranks of the Magic Knights (魔法騎士 Mahō Kishi). He eventually rose to the rank of Captain where he headed his own squad which were the Black Bulls (黒の暴牛 Kuro no Bōgyū).
