• Real World: February 12. Socialist and government forces clash in Austria in what becomes known as the Austrian Civil War.

• Real World: February 16. The Austrian Civil War ends- socialist forces in Austria surrender after the military joins the fight on the government's side.

• Real World: March 3. John Dillinger escapes from the jail at Crown Point, Indiana, reportedly using a fake gun made from wood.

• Real World: April 19. A photograph is taken that allegedly shows the Loch Ness Monster (the photograph is revealed to be a hoax in 1994).

• Real World: May 11. A powerful dust storm begins on this day (lasting until May 13) which strips parts of the Great Plains of large amounts of their topsoil.

• Real World: July 25. Engelbert Dollfuss, Chancellor of Austria, is assassinated by Austrian Nazis.
