Biography

Adam Neramani in X-Force v1 #30.

Adam Neramani

Finding himself on Earth and unaware of his own past, Adam-X began working for industrialist Martin Strong helping bring mutants to a Strong Industries plant where he would seemingly give them shelter. In exchange, Strong promises to help Adam-X regain his identity. During this time, Adam-X develops a close friendship with fellow mutant Michelle Balters, also known as Neurotap . Unbeknown to Adam-X, Strong Industries was, in actuality, funded by Project: Wideawake to develop a means to exterminate the 'X' gene that makes mutants. Discovering the truth, Balters flees from Strong Industries and Adam-X is sent to bring her back in.

X-Force had already begun investigating Strong's activities when they cross paths with Balters. X-Force attempted to preserve Balters' freedom but they were momentarily incapacitated by Adam-X's mutant ability. Balters is able to escape with X-Force and provide him with information about Strong.

In the industrial shadows of an Osage, Iowa, chemical plant, Adam X hunted his prey with a calculated, aggressive precision. Having been coerced into service by the industrialist Martin Strong, Adam tracked the extradimensional warrior Shatterstar through the refinery's labyrinthine steel structures. Upon making contact, he did not hesitate to engage, wielding his Theurgic blades to strike with blinding speed and lethal intent. During the fierce melee, Adam successfully nicked Shatterstar’s flesh, allowing him to manifest his terrifying mutant gift: the ability to flash-fry the electrolytes in an opponent's oxygenated blood. As Shatterstar buckled under the internal agony of his own veins igniting, Adam maintained a relentless offensive, utilizing his superior agility and spiked armor to deflect counterattacks. He taunted his opponent throughout the struggle, displaying a hardened combat pragmatism and a mysterious familiarity with the sensation of battle. However, as the rest of X-Force arrived to intervene, the tide of the skirmish shifted. Rather than delivering a killing blow or completing his contract for Strong, Adam assessed the mounting odds and the honorable nature of his opponent. He chose to disengage, vanishing into the darkness of the plant and leaving the team behind to wonder about the true nature of the warrior who had nearly bested one of their most dangerous fighters. Although initially meeting as adversaries, Adam-X and X-Force eventually join together to combat Martin Strong, once they discover that he is a mutant himself. Adam-X and Shatterstar, in particular, discover a mutual affinity due to their alien mutant status and love of battle. Membership to X-Force is offered to Adam-X but he declines, choosing instead to find his past and find who he is.

Adam X reappeared under the manipulation of the villainous Arcade, who had been hired by a mysterious figure known as Mr. Milbury to test the warrior's capabilities. Adam was abducted and placed within a mobile version of Murderworld, where he was forced into a gladiatorial confrontation with Shatterstar. Clad in his signature bladed regalia, Adam ambushed his former opponent, raining down his Thet'je spikes from the shadows of the arena to initiate their second duel. During the battle, he once again utilized his mutant ability to ignite the electrolytes in Shatterstar's blood, causing the extradimensional fighter immense internal agony. However, the combat was interrupted when Arcade revealed a holographic image of a woman named Windsong, claiming she was Shatterstar's wife and that her life depended on the outcome of their fight. Recognizing they were both pawns in a larger game, Adam and Shatterstar ceased their hostilities and formed an uneasy alliance to dismantle Arcade's traps. Adam used his thermal-based powers to help navigate the lethal obstacles of the facility, ultimately assisting in the defeat of Arcade’s robotic sentries and the destruction of the holographic ruse. Following the facility's collapse, Adam once again rejected the idea of joining a team, choosing instead to vanish back into the wilderness to continue his solitary search for the truth of his fractured memories. While traveling in the Canadian Yukon wilderness, Adam-X witnesses Phillip Summers’ plane crash. Adam-X is able to rescue Summers before his plane explodes. Adam-X uses his mutant power to “heat” Summers' blood and keep him warm until he finally manages to carry him to a hospital. They are greeted by Summers' grandson, Cyclops and Cyclops' wife, Jean Grey. The two X-Men thank Adam-X for his efforts and, using Jean’s telepathy, Adam-X is able to share some of his memories with Phillip, showing him the ships he flew while with the Shi’ar.

Adam-X meets Captain Marvel, and the two encounter the Shi’ar agent, Davan Shakari (aka Erik the Red). Shakari reveals that Adam-X is the human/Shi'ar hybrid son of Emperor D'Ken. Adam-X kills Shakari.<ref>Captain Marvel vol 3 #3 (1995)</ref>

He is imprisoned with many other earth-dwelling aliens, such as Beta Ray Bill and Ultra Girl. All the aliens are released by Abigail Brand, the former lead of S.W.O.R.D. Adam-X assists in driving off an alien invasion and is allowed his freedom. Brand, now in control again, clarifies she owes each of them a one-time favor.<ref>S.W.O.R.D. Among the over 50 plans Cyclops utilized to try to stop Juggernaut, Adam X was used to ignite Juggernaut's blood. The result was "worse than ineffective" as Juggernaut remained unstoppable, and for 15 minutes, burned anything he touched.<ref>Uncanny X-Men #542</ref>

Overview

Personality and attributes

Powers and abilities

Adam is a Shi'ar/human hybrid, and as such possesses the traits and abilities of both species. His strength is slightly superhuman, and his stamina and endurance is many times that of a normal human. Adam's speed and reflexes/reactions are far superior to both human and Shi'ar. As he is also half Shi-ar, who are evolved from birds of prey, he also possesses superhuman senses, agility, flexibility, dexterity, coordination, balance which are standard to that alien race.

In addition to being a hybrid, Adam is also a haemopyrokinetic mutant who possesses the X-gene, due to his half-human heritage, and has the power to "flash fry" an enemy. He can cause the electrolytes present in oxygenated blood to ignite, causing the person to burn from the inside out. Any person with an open cut becomes a target for him. To this end he carries Shi'ar blades, known as Thet’je blades, to cut his enemies and thus oxygenate their blood. Adam uses a trigger word of "Burn" to activate this power and his eyes glow red.
