History

Alderaan was a planet that existed a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Princess Leia Organa called home, and homeworld of her adopted father Bail Organa. Alderaan was one of the greatest worlds of the Old Republic, and became a planet of peace after the horror of the Clone Wars. When the Republic became the Galactic Empire, Alderaan was a strong supporter of the Rebel Alliance.

After the construction of the first Death Star, Grand Moff Tarkin had the vast weapon-ship destroy the entire planet and all its peoples, as a demonstration of power.

Overview

Part of its surface was shown to surface have a mountainous, alpine region covered in snow.

Inhabitants

  • Bail Organa : male human who served as senator of his world in the Galactic Senate by the time of the Clone Wars where he came to adopt the infant Leia as his daughter with him later being killed when the Death Star destroyed Alderaan.

Notes

  • Alderaan was created by George Lucas where it featured in the setting of the Star Wars universe.

Alternate Versions

  • In Star Wars Legends, Alderaan appeared in the setting of the former Expanded Universe setting. In the aftermath of its destruction, New Alderaan came to be established as a colony of the Rebel Alliance populated by Alderaanians who were off-world when their homeworld was destroyed.

Video games

  • In Star Wars: The Old Republic, Alderaan appeared in the setting of the MMORPG video game that was set 4,000 years before the movies. It was shown as being a member of the Galactic Republic with it being divided into a number of houses that were at odds with one another for the throne. The world had a native race of insectoids that predated the human colonists that lived in hibernation beneath the surface with these being the Killiks.
