Biography

Alumi Niumbirch.

Alumi Niumbirch (Japanese: アルミ・ニウムバーチ, Hepburn: Arumi Niumubāchi) was a female human born the daughter of Silva of the Patch Tribe.

Alumi Niumbirch had first arrived in Tokyo during the early days of the Flower of Maize as Hana Asakura’s fiancée and representative of the Patch Tribe, traveling under the banner of Team Hao. She had come alongside her father Silva and representatives of the Grand Council after learning of the disturbance caused by Hana’s unexpected involvement in the tournament’s Japanese leg. Upon arrival, she quickly separated from the other Team Hao members to locate Hana, discovering him furious and in a volatile psychic state in the garden of a shopping mall near Funbari Hill. When Luka Asakura, under the influence of a malevolent spirit, had attacked Hana and Yohane, Alumi had intervened at the last moment—flying through the air, deploying Silver Horn and Silver Shield to block the assault, and using Goldva-infused spiritual shot projectiles to neutralize both attackers. Despite failing to salvage the situation entirely—Hana's embodiment of Oni grew unstable and dangerous—she had managed to drag him to safety and halt further destruction through precise control of her Guardian Ghosts and talismanic techniques. Her calm assertiveness and unswerving loyalty in that crisis earned her immediate responsibility as Team Hao’s general manager, cementing her role in the unfolding tournament.

After rescuing Hana and arriving at the hospital, Alumi had overseen his initial recovery and the containment of his unstable spirit energy, working closely with Asakura Anna and the shamanic staff brought in for the event. She took charge of communicating with the hospital’s refusal to allow unauthorized spiritual influence near Hana’s ward, asserting her official status on Team Hao. During Hana’s unconscious moments, she conducted ritual purifications at the bedside—holding prayer beads, chanting ancestral incantations to stabilize his body’s burgeoning Oni energy, and integrating spiritual shields derived from her Silver Arms spirits to prevent spiritual parasites from corrupting him further. When Hana finally regained consciousness, weak and disoriented, she remained steadfastly at his side—administering spiritual medicine, guiding him to regain composure, and confronting him when he attempted to summon Oni again. She reprimanded him sharply by the bedside, using her authority as patch tribal heir and caretaker to rebuke his recklessness and call him back from emotional excess. Throughout, she interwove practical oversight—ordering bed repositioning, coordinating with nurses about medication schedules, and securing guest access lists—with spiritual vigilance: constantly monitoring furyoku levels, warding off psychic intrusions, and maintaining a protective aura around the hospital room.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Alumi Niumbirch was a female Gnome who carried herself with an air of inquisitive grace, blending the natural whimsy of her heritage with a refined, scholarly poise. Her skin possessed a warm, tawny hue reminiscent of polished cedar, providing a striking contrast to her most arresting feature: a voluminous mane of silvery-white hair that shimmered like spun moonlight and was often tied back with utilitarian leather cords. She stood at a diminutive height, yet her frame was lean and agile, marked by nimble fingers that were perpetually stained with the faint residue of ink or arcane dust. Her face was defined by high, delicate cheekbones and a pair of oversized, amber-coloured eyes that seemed to glow with an inner fire whenever she encountered a complex mechanical puzzle. For her attire, Alumi favoured a practical yet sophisticated ensemble consisting of a high-collared cerulean tunic cinched at the waist by a wide belt laden with specialized pouches and brass tools. Over this, she wore a durable, slate-grey duster coat lined with hidden pockets, and her sturdy travel boots were reinforced with etched metal plates, ensuring she was as prepared for a treacherous mountain trek as she was for a formal gathering at the mages' guild.

Niumbirch maintained a carefully constructed 'genki girl' facade that masked her true, more abrasive nature as a defense mechanism against a traumatic past. While she appeared energetic and bubbly in public, often presenting herself as a charming school idol, she was actually a deeply pragmatic and occasionally brutal itako who harboured an arrogant pride in her ancestry. This duality was a necessity born from being the sole survivor of the Patch Village massacre, a tragedy that forced her to adopt a stark emotional detachment and a fierce sense of responsibility. Even when she was being rude or mocking toward others, especially her fiancé Hana, she remained fiercely protective, using her harsh reprimands to hide a sincere compassion and a commitment to his safety. Her personality was defined by this complex tension between the playful mask she wore for the world and the cold, disciplined warrior.

Alumi operated with a steely pragmatism that dictated every one of her actions, a trait honed by years of survival and rigorous training under Anna Kyoyama. She viewed the world through a lens of calculated efficiency, often dismissing sentimental gestures or unnecessary hesitation in favour of achieving her tactical goals. This bluntness frequently made her appear callous or cold, as she had little patience for the perceived weaknesses of others, particularly when she felt they were not living up to their potential. Even in moments of extreme danger, she remained remarkably composed, relying on her sharp intellect and deep knowledge of shamanic arts to navigate crises without letting emotion cloud her judgement. Beneath her abrasive critiques lay a foundational discipline; she held herself to the same impossible standards she demanded of her peers, believing that in their world, only the strongest and most focused had any right to survive.

Powers and abilities

Being born as a shaman meant that Alumi possessed an innate connection to the spiritual realm that set her apart from the vast majority of humanity. From the moment of her birth, she occupied a dual existence, gifted with the spiritual sight required to perceive ghosts, nature spirits, and divine entities that remained invisible to ordinary eyes. This natural sensitivity was rooted in her furyoku, the internal reservoir of spiritual energy that served as the lifeblood of her craft; because she was born with this power, her soul functioned like a finely tuned vessel, capable of harmonising with the will of the afterlife. In practical terms, this heritage meant she could facilitate the Over Soul, a complex technique where she integrated a spirit into a physical medium to manifest its power in the material world. Her life was defined by this constant dialogue with the unseen, requiring a level of mental fortitude and spiritual discipline that allowed her to bridge the gap between the living and the dead, effectively acting as a medium for forces far beyond mortal comprehension.
