Biography

Member of the Patch Tribe.

Silva (Japanese: シルバ, Hepburn: Shiruba) was a male Native American born on September 16, 1971 to the Patch Tribe and a member of the Shaman Fight Selection Committee. He travels from the United States (The "Desert of the West" in the English anime) to Japan after being assigned to test Yoh Asakura. In Tokyo, he often appeared as a street vendor where he tried to sell traditional Native American crafts while in Japan and spent the rest of his spare time watching soap operas. This was until the scheduled shaman fight with Yoh where he was ready to battle the young Asakura. After some difficulty, Yoh landed a hit on Silva thus resulting in him passing the qualification test. Silva watched over Yoh after he defeats him in the qualification test. He later witnessed the shaman fight between Yoh and Horohoro which was a battle that Asakura won. During this time, Silva made friends with Kalim who had been assigned to watch over the progress of Horohoro. In this time, he struck a friendship with his fellow Patch Tribe member Kalim with the pair publically acting as street vendors that were selling traditional Native American crafts in Japan. During this time, Silva also spent his spare time watching soap operas on the television. Afterwards, he attended the fight between the shaman Faust VIII and another named Da Vinci who was believed talented enough to become Shaman King. However, Da Vinci was defeated but rather than simply end the fight, Faust VIII continued his attack until he killed his opponent. This battle disturbed Silva as he had witnessed Faust VIII's ruthless and brutal nature. He later learnt that Yoh's next fight was against Faust VIII which worried him greatly. Ordinarily, the rules of the tournament meant that no warnings could be given to the participants but Silva feared for Yoh's life. As such, he secretly met with Anna Kyoyama in order to warn her and ask her to get Yoh to quit the match but she refused as she said that she had complete faith in Asakura. Silva and Anna arrived for the start of the fight to only find out that it had already begun. Faust VIII had provoked Yoh by kidnapping his friend and hurting him in an effort for him to expend his Furiyoku in anger. The necromancer had felt slighted by his foes and intended to kill Asakura even after Faust VIII won the match with Silva attempting to stop the fight. Yoh was only saved by the arrival of Tao Ren who had only done so because he desired to defeat Asakura himself. Afterwards, Silva accompanied Yoh to the hospital and later greeted Manta Oyamada after he regained consciousness following the battle. He later spectated and saw the designated battle between Tao Ren and Yoh Asakura. He observed the fight as Ren had the advantage of a greater amount of Furyoko but Asakura made use of skilled attacks. Ultimately, the battle was a draw with both losing their Furyoko at the same time with Silva informing the pair of the result of the fight when the oracle bell decided that both were deemed to had completed the preliminary battle rounds allowing them to progress to the next stage of the tournament. For the next stage of the shaman fights, the participants were expected to travel to the Patch Tribe's native home at Dobi Village with Silva and Kalim ready to depart back there. However, Kalim informed Silva that Hao Asakura was still present in town and that he was to approach the shaman to warn him not to participate in the tournament. Silva later found Hao who refused the warnings and stated that he planned to participate in the tournament as he had done before in the previous fights. He was later in the Desert of the West watching the progress of Team Asakura after their plane was sent crashing and the had to trek to Dobi Village on foot. They were secretly pursued by Sharona and her comrades in Team Lilly Five who intended to eliminate them from the shaman tournament but they were effortlessly defeated with Silva standing watch over the fight to ensure that the rules were maintained.

Silva is the first person Yoh sees when he wakes up from the vision of the Great Spirit as he is assigned to rouse the shamans that enter the village. Silva shows Yoh the Great Spirit and he catches Yoh before he can faint again offering him some soup for good relief. He is assigned next to sell things to raise money in the two months' time that will pass before the participants would be transported to the reallocation of the Second Rounds. He was last seen retrieving Hao's book from Anna, wondering how strong she really was, as she showed him, how she had tamed Zenki and Goki. When the fights begin Silva is stuck with transportation duty. When Hao decimates Team "X-III" Radim is later seen in a hut with a recording of the fight, together with Silva. There he refuses to hand it over, but Silva just grabs it with Silver Rod. He also warned Yoh, that Hang Zang-Ching, Peyote Diaz, and Mohamed Tabarsi had attacked Team "The Ren". Later it is revealed that Silva tried to steal the remaining four Grand Elemental Spirits, although he was caught and imprisoned for his actions. Goldva then ordered things to be fixed, that Bron and Renim happily agreed to do and which was something Kalim seemed shocked about. After John Denbat fired the Satellite Laser in an attempt to kill Hao, the island was noticed by the entire world, and the Patch became worried that they would be unable to end the fights without the interference from the "humans". However Magna and Nichrom just said that the second round was over, and Bron and Renim continued by saying that the place where the next round would be held was completely protected and with no one able to interfere. There Silva appeared saying that it was their duty to protect the Shaman King. When Hao wins the Shaman fight Silva and the other Patch Officiants follow Goldva to the Plants for the crowning ceremony. He is stationed at his personal Plant on guard duty.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Silva was a tall and muscular man with long black hair that was braided into two large bangs on each side of his face. Like all the other members of the Patch Tribe, he wears a Native American cloak with a red headband.

It was said that his blood type was B.

He later developed a habit of watching television dramas and soap operas where he became invested in the characters on those shows.

In the shaman fights, he was shown as being a capable officiant but was often told that he was too emotional to be impartial.

As the descendant of Hao's second incarnation, Silva also held a personal desire to stop Hao in his modern third incarnation.

Silva believed in Yoh Asakura and believed he had potential to become a worthy Great Spirit.

It was shown that years later he came to have a daughter who was named Alumi Niumbirch.

He has also made himself good friends with Kalim, the official responsible for Horohoro, and even is a roommate together with him during the Shaman Fights in Tokyo City.

Powers and abilities

As a shaman, Silva had the ability to see spirits and manipulate them to his wishes. This gave him a range of mystical powers as he was able to manipulate Furyoku to achieve these feats. Similar to other shamans, he had a number of guardian spirits that served him. These were his five familiars that were luminous totems that had refined themselves for over 500 years. Their physical forms manifested as rings of their respective animals with these being worn on his fingers.

Among the spirits included:

  • Silver Horn : An American Bison spirit
  • Silver Rod : A snake spirit
  • Silver Shield : A turtle spirit that could manifest as a shield to protect him from harm.
  • Silver Tail : A coyote spirit
  • Silver Wing : An eagle spirit that could manifest as a pair of spirit wings giving Silva the power of flight.

These five spirits could also combine to form a cannon that was used to shoot the powerful Totemic Soul Blast attack.
